Karate & Fiction
other fictitious characters of the style

I know many of you are familiar with the image of the Karate Kid, along with the sequels, the Hilary Swank version, the remake with Jackie Chan (which took place in China and they don't do Karate over there) and of course the series Cobra Kai which features Johnny Lawrence trying to rebuild his life.
But what about other karate people in fiction? Daniel LaRusso, Johnny Lawrence, John Kreese and Mister Miyagi himself aren't the only karate practitioners.
Let's look at some others shall we.
Takuma Sakazaki

Ryo Sakazaki

And Yuri Sakazaki

The father, son and daughter team from the video game series Art of Fighting and King of Fighters, the father Takuma Sakazaki is the master of the fictitious karate style known as Kyokugen Karate, that is inspired by the real karate style of Kyoshukin Karate founded by Masutatsu Ōyama.
His son Ryo Sakazaki is the master of the dojo and one day we be the heir to the Sakazaki family dojo.
The female member of the Sakazaki is just a student and practices some other unknown styles.
She also likes Robert Garcia, despite her father and brother's over-protectiveness of her.
Robert Garcia

The non-Sakazaki family member and practitioner of Kyokugenryu Karate. The head of the Garcia Foundation and love interest to Yuri Sakazaki. He is also the first foreigner to be part of the Sakazaki family dojo.
Marco Rodriguez

A disciple of Ryo Sakazaki and head of the Brazilian school of Kyokugenryu Karate. In the English version of the games he appears in, his name is Khushnood Butt (I don't know why). Sometimes he is goofy other times he is serious, sometimes wise but often reckless. He does show a certain degree of respect towards the pro-wrestler Tizoc.
Hitomi

The half-German, half-Japanese beauty from the Dead or Alive series was introduce in the third installment of the series to replace Ein as the karate fighter in the series.
She practiced karate (don't ask which style) under her father since she was a child.
She wanted to prove herself in the Dead or Alive Tournament and wanted to see Hayate (whom she is in a relationship with).
Takuma "Terry" Tsurugi

Played by martial arts legend Sonny Chiba, this powerfully played anti-hero doesn't need weapons to take out thugs and assassins. He is one.
Born to a Chinese mother and a Japanese father, he learned at the age of 5 a combination of Shaolin Kung-fu and karate. Sadly, his father was executed for treason for mating with a Chinese woman, which was legal for the Imperial Army to do during the Japanese occupation of China It was when he witnessed his father's execution that he became the cold, amoral person that he is, so much so that he has no qualms about selling families into sexual slavery to pay off his debts.
Despite the fact that he is a cold-blooded killer, he does however become conflicted about killing Kendō Masaoka (Masafumi Suzuki) when he is asked to by the Yakuza.
The Street Fighter trilogy is considered a classic piece of Martial Arts filming and was sorely needed at the time following the tragic death of Bruce Lee's death.

Kazuma Mishima

For those of you familiar with the Tekken series, you need no introduction to this fellow. For those of you are not, you will find him to be nothing short of a badass.
Despite being thrown off a cliff by his father Heihachi and receiving a nasty scar across his chest (along with making a deal with the devil) he still manages to face his scumbag father while maintaining control of G Corporation.
His fighting technique known as Mishima Style Fighting Karate is obviously a fictitious fighting style. Despite that, this style of Karate is inspired by real styles of karate. Shotokan (a style I practice) Goju-Ryu and Shito-Ryu are seen throughout the series.

Whether or not you are a fan of Karate, I merely wanted to entertain you, the reader, that there are other examples of Karate in fiction.
I appreciate you reading this and I appreciate and any money tips that you can give.
