On Thursday December 12, John Jay welcomed Ketchum, Eastchester and Clarkstown North to the high school. Two matches for the price of one, the Wolves split the day.

They lost 51-20 versus Ketchum and then returned the favor over Clarkstown by a score of 56-20.

At 118, David Corrales had the same outcome. He fell big in the first round and dominated in a major decision in the nightcap.

John Aniello, on the other hand, didn’t miss a beat. He registered a major decision versus Roc C Ketchum, and after going up ten versus Clarkstown, the 126 pounder ran half to a second period pin.

Emerson Flamm didn’t waste that much time after getting a disqualification win in the first match. The 132 pounder put his opponent right to his back on the takedown and was walking away moments later.

Onto 138, Gavin Dacey had a tough time the first go around too. He was out in the first period but rebounded on the back end. He scored the takedown to open and cradled his way to the pin before the first period clock ran out.

Unfortunately, Wyatt Gierer didn’t escape the same fate versus Ketchum, and lost a close one point decision. Undeterred, the 150 pounder scored a first period takedown versus Clarkstown and went full measures with a half nelson on a second period pin.

Up next, Joe Arefieg had a full day's work with two close decisions. In the opener, the 175 pounder took a single leg to a 3-0 first period lead and rode out a 4-3 victory in the third. However, the margin was not as favorable the second time and he came up just short versus Clarkstown.

Jeremy Walerys lost a close one too against Ketchum but scored a second period pin to go home happy versus the Rams.

Finally, Joe Ferrer split even also. The 285 pounder registered a first period pin, and to close the day, the behemoths battled to a tightly contested decision that matched the fortitude of both combatants.

Admirals Easily Sink the Wolves

On Wednesday January 7, John Jay welcomed Arlington to the high school and digging in for the Wolves was not an option. The Admirals ran the flag up the pole and left the home team lost at sea.

The visitors dominated the day and went home with an easy 57-22 victory.

Talan Rampolla immediately set the tone. He got the opening takedown versus Caleb Goldner, put the 103 pounder to his back, and it was 6-0 after only 59 seconds.

Sam Kern was gone even quicker. Chase Mulvany shot the takedown and walked off with the pin after only 50 seconds.

So David Corrales returned the favor. After taking a 3-0 first period lead on his takedown, the 118 pounder ran a half to a second period pin.

12-6, John Jay briefly stuck around on the work of John Aniello. The 126 pounder ducked under to a single leg takedown and then piled on the back points in the second and third period.

A major decision, the Wolves trailed 17-10. But the drama was long removed by the time Arlington ran a string of victories to Joe Ferrer at 215 pounds. The heavyweight got a takedown outside the circle, and with a 3-1 second period lead, the big man ran a half to 22 point tally that came up way short.
