How the 112th Grey Cup Playoff Picture Was Completed

A look back at the final three weeks of the 2025 CFL season

By Clyde E. DawkinsPublished 2 months ago 3 min read

Forgive me, readers, I've been quite behind on the recaps for the Canadian Football League. I've had a few reasons. For one, the postseason being crazy as hell. Same with the NFL season, which is now in Week 9. I know I have three weeks to discuss, and we are about to enter the playoffs. I know this: there was a lot to decipher entering Week 19. So let's talk about it.

First place in both divisions still needed to be decided in Week 19, and during that week, it was the West that was won, as the Saskatchewan Roughriders clinched first place in the West when they won, 27-19 over the already eliminated Toronto Argonauts. So the Western Final will be in Regina. That was all that was locked in after Week 19. Week 20 still had two vacant playoff spots, but they were nabbed when the Edmonton Elks were defeated by the BC Lions, 37-24.

As a result, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and the Calgary Stampeders both got in, but Week 21 still needed things to solve. The East was still up for grabs, and 2nd place in the West was still on the line, as was third. The East was solved first; the Hamilton Tiger-Cats won, 35-15 over the Ottawa Redblacks, resulting in Hamilton earning the right to host the Eastern Final. And while the Stamps did win, so did the Lions, giving the Lions second place in the West.

And there you have it! The 112th Grey Cup Playoffs is all set. The Division Semifinals will take place on Saturday, November 1, and it will kick off in Montréal, Quebec with the Alouettes hosting the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the Eastern Semifinal. The Bombers are in as the crossover team this season, and this is their first playoff meeting since they faced off for the Grey Cup in 2023, with the Alouettes winning on that November evening. The Bombers swept the season series this year, and with Winnipeg being the host city for the 112th Grey Cup, the Bombers are looking to play for the Cup in front of their home fans.

After that, it's the Western Semifinal in Vancouver, British Columbia, as the BC Lions play host to the Calgary Stampeders. Both teams finished with identical 11-7 records, but it was BC sweeping the season series that gave them home field. The Lions haven't won the Grey Cup since 2011, and they are looking to get back there this year. As for the Stamps, it's been seven years since they reached and won.

The Division Semifinals are all set, and after that, it's the Division Finals on Saturday, November 8. The Eastern Final will emanate from Hamilton, Ontario, while the Western Final will emanate from Regina, Saskatchewan. It will all end on Sunday, November 16 with the 112th Grey Cup, which will take place in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Similar to last season, the Division Semifinals and the Division Finals will only be available on CFL+, the streaming site for fans in the U.S. and other countries outside of Canada. As for the 112th Grey Cup, that will air on CBS Sports Network here in the States on Sunday, November 16. The Grey Cup Playoffs are here, folks! All I ask is that everyone just set back, and enjoy this wild ride and quest to crown the winner of the prestigious Grey Cup.
