EXCLUSIVE: Reason First- Chiefs give critical update on Patrick Mahomes’ knee injury

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes underwent successful surgery Monday night in Dallas to repair the tear in his left ACL, the team announced

For the highest paid player in the National Football League (NFL), it only makes sense that Patrick Mahomes pursues every avenue of revenue possible. Endorsement deals and bonuses, however, couldn’t stop him from sustaining an ACL tear.

And what is this sports world doing anyway? Thousands crowd stadiums and millions gather around screens to watch millionaires scramble to make cash for billionaires.

This beautiful system becomes corroded only when the focus goes from treating these athletes as human beings to considering them like destruction derby cars. For arguably the greatest player in the league, Mahomes racked up Hall of Fame numbers the past few seasons.

With three superbowl wins, there’s no question that the man can play ball. But when it comes to his health, will his franchise ensure that he is restored and able to perform at a high level again?

The Kansas City Chiefs are out of the playoff picture for the first time in over a decade. As their season ends, they know they’re going to be on the lookout for his return.

That being said, this collision sport has decreased in popularity, its viewership, however, has increased paradoxically.

Realities like CTE, the politicization of the Super Bowl, and other factors have contributed to a NFL that is strong in body, but needs to be benched in spirit.

The soul of the game, the gorgeous plays and routes all form a sport of greatness. The sheer joy supporters exude as a player crosses over for a touchdown or even completes a pick six is reason enough for the game to continue.

Mahomes’ ability to scramble in the pocket and then launch a rocket into the end zone is a spectacle to behold.

His coach Andy Reid has described other players who have suffered the same injury only to bounce back with even more fire and fury in their gut and more focused minds. Mahomes is just the top player because he earned his spot through rigorous, smart work.

By getting up early and perfecting his craft, reviewing plays and practicing his style of play, Mahomes has championed the league becoming the MVP twice so far.

If everything goes well, he will once again ascend to the highest levels of the sports world. But what if the tear is severe? What then? Does the team drop him and all the endorsement deals dry up? Will he have to open a car dealership in his hometown of Tyler, Texas?

As the NFL community prepares to see if Mahomes will come out on top, it should give anyone pause. Is this just a season ender for Mahomes or something much worse?

He rests in the mystical world for his guidance and that’s his prerogative. Given that he signed a ten year $450 million deal, most would scoff at such figures. But he earned it. Every dime. By letting his skills speak for him, Mahomes has carved out a sculpture of excellence.

His numbers are impressive despite a Super Bowl loss this past championship season. One only can guess if gambling had something to do with that outcome and continues to center around the various leagues namely basketball and baseball.

But football is a totally different animal altogether. There are more players, huge salaries, and the question hanging over the minds of anyone who spectates is: does this sport promote too much violence?

Whatever the case, now Mahomes will forever be aware of his left knee throughout however many more seasons he may play. What is glaringly obvious is hardly ever noticed….This injury will be a moment for Mahomes to regroup and gather himself based on the truth of rational thinking over faith. If he is healed, just hail the medical staff. That would be sufficient.
