The 13 "rich habits" of the rich, how many of them have you achieved?
Get Rich
The 12th in a series of "One Book a Day" posts
Hello everyone, this is the #BookADay series, where we keep getting a little better every day!
The book I'm sharing with you today is The Habit of Being Rich.
The author of this book, Thomas Corey, is an American Certified Public Accountant, Certified Financial Planner and Master of Taxation.
"He spent five years studying the daily habits of 177 self-made millionaires and 128 poor people, and discovered that the fundamental difference between the rich and the poor is most importantly their daily habits, which reveal whether they can achieve success and happiness in life and work. The most important thing is daily habits.
His research on the "Habits of the Rich" has been published on CBS Evening News, MSN Money, USA Today, Success Magazine and hundreds of other media platforms in over 20 countries.
"Habit predicts a cause-and-effect relationship." He writes in the book.
And habits determine wealth, poverty, happiness, sadness, stress, good or bad relationships, and health or lack thereof.
Here are 13 "rich habits" from the book for rich people.
Read every day
The rich are more likely to learn than to be entertained.
88% of the rich read for at least half an hour and a half a day, mainly for self-learning and self-improvement. They read more for knowledge than for entertainment or recreation.
They tend to read three types of books: autobiographies of successful people, personal grooming or growth, and history.
Bill Gates, the former richest man in the world and founder of Microsoft, was known as a "bookworm" from a young age, and has continued to read 1-2 books a week and at least 50 books a year since he became the richest man in the world.
Warren Buffett, also the former richest man in the world, once said: "My job is to read, to read everything I can.
Li Ka-shing, the 91-year-old richest Chinese man, still works hard every day and keeps up his good habit of reading, having said, "I must read in the evening. If I have an hour, even if I don't get enough sleep or sleep late, I will read just the same."
●Staying active
Aerobic exercise is not only good for your body, it's also great for your brain.
76% of rich people stick to aerobic exercise for more than 30 minutes a day. Aerobic exercise includes running, sprinting, brisk walking, cycling, etc.
Aerobic exercise increases neurons (brain cells) and physical exercise also increases the amount of glucose in the body, which is the fuel for the brain. The more nutrients your brain gets, the better it will develop and the smarter you will become.
As the saying goes, the body is the capital of the revolution, and rich people certainly care about their 'capital'.
Enjoy meeting successful people
Successful people are always looking for people who are goal-oriented, optimistic, enthusiastic and have a positive mindset.
It is also important to avoid contact with negative people or influences, the author specifically stresses that "negative, negative criticism will take you further and further away from success."
● Pursue your own dreams and goals
Pursuing your own dreams and goals can lead to long-term happiness, which ultimately translates into a great deal of wealth.
Whereas too many people make the mistake of chasing other people's (like their parents') dreams, the rich constantly refine their goals, pursuing them with tenacity and passion.
Passion makes work more interesting, and passion gives you the ability to overcome failure, mistakes, rejection, persistence and focus.
●Stay up early
In Cory's study, more than half of the people who became self-made millionaires woke up at least three hours before working hours.
This is one strategy for dealing with unexpected situations in the daily routine, such as a meeting that takes too long, traffic jams, having to pick up a sick child from school, etc. These unexpected situations can have a psychological effect on us, altering our subconscious and eventually making us feel that our lives are out of control.
Getting up at 5am and completing your three most important things for the day will allow you to regain control of your life and become more confident.
So getting up early is not the goal, it's what you do that counts.
Steve Jobs woke up at 4am, Cook at 4.30am, Wang at 5.30am, Li Ka-shing at 6am, Warren Buffett at 6.45am ......
● Have multiple sources of income
Wealthy people who start from scratch do not rely on a single source of income; they have multiple sources of income.
65% of successful people already have at least three sources of income before they earn their first million dollars.
Additional income, including real estate rentals, stock market investments, and partial ownership of a side business
● Have your own mentor
Finding your own mentor can build wealth faster.
Many successful people attribute their success to their mentors, with 68% of the wealthy citing the guidance they received from others as the key to their success.
Successful mentors don't just have a positive impact on your life, they can be regularly active in your path to success by guiding you on what to do and what not to do. They share valuable success lessons with you that either come from their mentors or from having failed to hit the ground running.
Jack Dorsey, founder of Twitter and CEO of mobile payments company Square, whose entrepreneurial mentor was Disney CEO Bob Igor.
● Have a positive outlook on people
Positivity is the hallmark of all self-made millionaires.
You can only achieve long-term success if you have a positive mental attitude.
The problem is that most people cannot determine whether their thoughts are positive or negative.
If you stop and listen to your thoughts and feel them, you will find that the vast majority of them are negative. But it is only when you force yourself to look inside that you become aware of the existence of these negative thoughts. Being aware of their existence is the key.
● Not following the crowd
Successful people create their own circles and pull others in.
We always want to fit in, to fit in and be part of society, so we always try not to stand out too much. But the inability to set yourself apart from others is why most people don't achieve success.
You need to make yourself stand out and then create your own circle for others to join you.
● Behave politely
The self-reliant rich have mastered the important principles of social etiquette.
If you want to be successful, you need to master the same principles. These include sending thank you notes, remembering important dates (e.g. wedding anniversaries, birthdays), mastering table manners and dressing correctly for different occasions.
● Help others to succeed
If you want to be successful, the best way is to help others first.
You can benefit from helping others follow their goals and dreams and achieve success. Success can be difficult to define if there are no other successful people.
However, you should not give help to everyone, you should only help those who are optimistic, have a clear goal, are positive and are chasing their dreams.
● Spend 15-30 minutes a day thinking
Thinking is the key to success for the wealthy.
Rich people tend to think independently for at least 15 minutes in the morning. They think about many things in their minds every morning. Topics include both career and finances, as well as family, health and charity.
They often ask themselves questions like, "What can I do to make more money? Does my job make me happy? Do I get enough time to exercise? What other charitable activities can I get involved in?"
Jack Dorsey, founder of Twitter and CEO of mobile payments company Square, wakes up at 5:30am every day for a meditation practice, followed by an hour-long jog. It's a lifestyle he's continued for a long time, especially when running back and forth between Twitter and Square for work at the same time.
● Seeking feedback
We rarely seek feedback from others because we are afraid of criticism. But feedback is the key to knowing if you're doing something right or not.
Feedback helps you know if you're still on the right path. If the feedback is critical, whether good or bad, it is an important element of learning and growth.
In addition, feedback can allow you to change your focus and experience a new career or path.
It is fair to say that over 90% of our daily actions are governed by habits, we just don't realise it a lot of the time.
The good news is that our habits can be changed and nurtured, and everyone has the opportunity to become a multi-millionaire, it's all about your willingness to develop the 'rich habit'!
