I Discovered The Coolest Side Hustle Ever

This is the side hustle I've been looking for...

My brain is always working; it constantly tries to identify problems that can be solved. In other words;

"How can I help people?"

And one day in the apartment complex where I live I suddenly got an idea.

So long story short, I have a neighbor called Kurt who is 82 years old. He never had any children, his wife died 10 years ago, and sadly he has no friends.

Therefore, I often go chat with Kurt and help him if he needs anything, whether that's shopping, cleaning, or just company.

Through the years Kurt has offered me a lot of his stuff; carpets, knives, coffee machines, TVs, radios, etc. Mostly I say "no thank you, you should keep it"...

The Side Hustle Idea

One day it struck me:

"What if I asked to help Kurt sell his old stuff, and we could share the profit?"

Yup, that's what I did. I went back to Kurt, knocked on his door, and asked if he would like me to try selling his coffee machine, and then split the profit. He had that adorable granddad smile covering his face and told me he thought that was a wonderful idea.

I took the coffee machine back home, cleaned it, and put it up on a site similar to Craigslist - two days later I sold it for $120.

That was incredible... I just earned myself $60 for almost no work, and at the same time, I could make my neighbor, Kurt, happy. When I came with his $60 he almost refused to take them, but I insisted.

I Could Expand This Idea

WOW, I thought to myself. Did I just find the coolest side hustle ever? I thought if Kurt doesn't know how to sell his stuff online, other people don't know how to do it either. And maybe some just don't want the hassle.

That's when I ran up and down, back and forth in my apartment complex knocking on people's doors. I told them how I would like to sell their stuff and then split the profit.

And I'm not lying when I say that almost 80% offered me their stuff immediately, some even told me to keep the money.

After two weeks, I went back to all the people I managed to sell for and handed them their share of the profit. (I've never seen so many smiles in one day).

How To Approach It?

I'm sure it's possible to make some deals, especially with the elderly, where you keep 100% of the profit. While that's cool, I don't personally think that's how you should go about it for two reasons;

  • You will close more deals, and get your hands on more stuff if you offer them at least 50% of the profit.
  • I believe in helping people, and sharing is caring, right?

When that's said, be honest and explain to every single person you meet on your way that you want to help them out, and here's your idea. Most people I met were thankful, and thought it was a great initiative, so why wouldn't they think the same of you?

Final Thoughts

This is an easy and great way to earn some additional income, and you are helping people out at the same time. So if you have nothing against talking with people, and you like bringing up smiles, then this is the perfect side hustle for you.

Who knows, someone might become a valuable acquaintance of yours in the future - so it's not only the money now and here that's great, but the potential future opportunities it brings too.
