How I started Trading and learned the magic of Investing

Trading and investing are like two sons. Investing is the son who take time to do work but do it close to perfect. On the other hand, trading is the other son who do work in hurry and sometimes mess up things but sometimes do it better than the other son.

Childhood Desire

I was 12 when I started to learn about the stock market. I am an Indian, so daily I used to wonder what the Sensex and Nifty (Indian Indices) means on the newspaper front page, and then I talked to my father about these unknown but interesting words.

He is also a very fond lover of investing and trading, though that didn't make him any fortune like the typical 90% of people. He is a Gold Merchant, so of course, he likes trading commodities, and he used to trade Crude and Gold.

Furthermore, he didn't tell me a lot, just that it's the stock market and many known companies are listed in the Stock Market. I was not like Warren Buffett, who then started investing in those companies or started reading books on investing.

In fact, I forget about that thing and go on with my typical life of playing sports and computer games. I come across of stock market again when I became eligible to trade in stocks, that means when I turned 18.

When I turned 18

I was a college fresher with a lot of motivation to earn money in this rich world with a crazy amount of poor people. Not only that, but I always had a fear of being left out in this crazy rich and smart world.

So I opened my Demat Account with ₹400 (~$5) and was excited to see my favorite and popular companies listed on the app terminal. I made an account on Zerodha, which is a popular broker in India.

My first trade

I still remember that it was around January 2020, when I started learning about many types of trading like Intraday, Swing, Positional, etc. At that time, Sensex was around 35,000, around its all-time high of ~40,000.

So the valuations were quite high, so I decided to learn more about how the stock market works. So far, I learned all my basics from the app Varsity by Zerodha. When I finished all the basics, I thought Intraday is great for me. Though small, but I made some good profits as a beginner with Intraday trading.

Investing

I never like investing because it's time taking, and I was a college guy who just wants everything in one day. Well, that's where I mess things. If my trade doesn't go my way, then I started holding those stocks for months. That's what many people in the stock market do because they can't accept a loss.

So far, investing in good companies always works when the economy is going well and there is no deadly Virus in the world.

Investing vs Trading

The stock market is the device for transferring money from the impatient to the patient. ~ Warren Buffett

This quote is so true that you don't need any teaching in the stock market, just follow this quote, and you will be wealthy in the next 10 years. Just buy stocks worth ₹1000, (~$15) every week and forget about it. Remember to buy large-cap.

If you're in the US, then most stocks may be higher than $100 or maybe more than $1000, you can use uphold to buy fractional shares.

Well, I like this quote, but I'm being honest here, I don't use it. I am from that generation where people are getting rich in just one day by just investing in companies like Gamestop and in India by investing in small caps and in cryptocurrency shitcoins like Doge and SHIB.

I am more a fan of Wolf of Wall Street than Warren Buffett but believe me I respect his method and his method works. But I love to take risks and that also cost me a lot of fortune, but I don't regret it because I learned a lot from it.

Phew, that's a lot about me only

I was telling you this because my next few blogs will be full of my 2 years' experience in Stocks and Cryptocurrencies. I have learned a lot of things which I will share with you guys.

Good decisions come from experience, and experience comes from bad decisions.

Likewise, I may don't have a lot of experience, but I learned a lot of things that may be beneficial for you.
