What is the difference between a kaftan and a muumuu?

On such coronavirus pandemic, I’m sure all the women's would have ditched the pants and office wear and have embraced wearing leggings for their stretchy waist. Wouldn’t you be more enjoyable in something flowy and forgiving that drapes around your body in a way that’s elegant and also puzzling? Of course you would. That’s why you need a caftan or the muumuu. You need a caftan like you need air to breathe or tea for refreshment. In other words, a caftan is an elemental need.

Technically, according to designers, a kaftan is a tapered cut, long robe with full sleeves, either with a deep open neck or fully open to the floor and has been worn in a numerous culture around the world for thousands of years. Kaftans has originated from Asia.

In Russia, the kaftan is usually worn by men with the long suit and tight sleeves.

Kaftan may be made of wool, silk, or cotton. They were popular during the time of the Ottoman Empire. The detailed and intricate designed garments were given to ambassadors and many other important visitors. The kaftan were inherited by different cultures and people and therefore it developed a lot of variations throughout the Middle East and Asia and were worn by individuals in Russia, South East Asia and Northern Africa Styles. It then got different uses and names.

North African Kaftan

Generally the kaftan is worn as a coat or as an overdress, usually having long sleeves and reaching to the ankles. In regions with a warm climate, it is worn as they are light-weight, loose-fitting garment and keeps away from the loo. In some cultures, the kaftan has presented as a symbol of royalty.

The muumuu origins from Hawaii and the term denote “cut off.” But any genre of these loose-fitting garments suits us now. The muumuu is the one that dangles from the shoulder and is like a cross between a shirt and a robe.

Like the Aloha shirt, muumuu are often masterfully colored with floral patterns of general Polynesian motifs. Muumuus for local Hawaiian residents are dimmer in tone. Muumuus are no longer as largely worn at work as the Aloha shirt, but continues to be the favor for formal dress for weddings and festivals. Muumuus are also popular during maternity time because they do not control the waist.
