Gentleman… a skill an attribute becoming of a gentleman is procuring the perfect gift for every occasion. For this article, such an occasion to reference, is Father’s day. Yes, it is time to show the OG gentleman in your life just how much you have appreciated their support and whose life lessons we have learned.

In our region, Father’s Day falls on 5 September - please open your calendar and set your reminders right now for the date, and preparations… go on I can wait. Well done! So let’s discuss how you will show your father your love and appreciation this year.

We are sure, we demonstrate often how much we love our fathers, with an unexpected phone call to say hello, or stopping by to give him a hand with the yard.

On Father's Day, a gift can be a suitable token to celebrate your father and the day. However, what do you get the person in your life that likely has it all?

You were already the best gift, what more would top that? Father's Day, for far too long has been earmarked as the day of crackpot novelty gifts, jokes, and some kind of mockery. Funny gifts are preferred as it will bring a laugh, but it can lack conveying your true emotion and giving a lasting memory that the day deserves. Your father already has enough mugs, another with 'You’re the best' inscribed on it, no longer cuts it, in my book.

So how do you know what the perfect gift is? It isn’t difficult to get the right gift.

First, deeply consider and ask yourself, what kind of a man is my father? This can sometimes be easy or difficult to answer, as it depends on several elements, but this person has played a role in your development. There were some obvious or subtle details that gave insight to their personality, values and enjoyment.

Is he a classic gentleman or a rugged outdoors type? Is he the type of father that takes great pride in his surroundings? Does he value his presentation before leaving the house? Is he a lover of engineering and machinery?

Over the next few weeks, I encourage you to really pay closer attention to him. His habits and speech, will help you to answer some of these questions correctly. After all, the reason a gentleman gives such great gifts isn’t due to the amount he spends on the gift, but the thought and insight he pours into his gift selection for the people in his life. That is why I have referred to gift giving as a skill.

Below are a few categories that illustrate some fathers we know and have met, including a suitable feel for each of them.

I hope you will find something that will help you convey to your father the appreciation, and gratitude you have for him.

The Refined Father

You will often find this father is attracted to a more classic type of gift. Something of great quality and timeless.
