Ten Spring 2021 Hero pieces from the U.K. high street
To see you through the year

In the U.K. lockdown is easing off and shops will soon reopen. Are you tempted to go on one big clothes shopping binge to celebrate?
If you are, bear in mind that the latest trends will be out of style within months, taking up space in your wardrobe. By applying a bit of strategy you will get a dopamine hit of buying new clothes without the post-purchase comedown.
The strategy? Rather than fast fashion shopping consider investing in timeless hero pieces that can be styled in multiple ways to see you through summer and beyond.
Here are ten of my favourites from the U.K. high street and beyond:

Based in the Yorkshire Dales, Nearly New Cashmere transforms second hand cashmere into luxurious and affordable one-off 100% cashmere pieces including cardigans, dresses and T-shirts. This classic navy and white striped cardigan comes in a Size Small. It can be worn in so many ways and will never go out of style.

This stretchy black bodysuit by Zara has a subtle scalloped lace detail at the neck. Wear it with high waisted jeans, a blazer and heels, under a skirt or on its own with funky trainers. This is an essential staple with which you cannot go wrong.

Straight leg, loose fit trousers with a flat waistband are universally flattering. COS combines this classic fit with a pretty blue and white tie dye pattern to take you effortlessly from work to the bar to a weekend garden party. Best of all, they’re currently on sale.

Founded in 2006 under the H&M umbrella, Monki is great for fun, wearable wardrobe staples, many of them made from organic and recycled cotton and polyester. Wear these faux leather taupe over-the-knee boots with a belted dress, or over leggings with an oversized sweatshirt. Bonus: they’re vegan.

A short, fitted blazer looks great on all body shapes. Wear it with high waisted jeans, an A-Line skirt, shorts... the choices are endless. Style it with jeans, a straw tote and strappy sandals for summer afternoon or leather shorts, heels and a clutch for an evening out. This tweed version from Mango includes gold tone buttons for a Balenciaga inspired military feel.

A roomy leather tote bag will never do you wrong. This two tone black and terracotta version from And Other Stories is extra sleek and extra chic.

The combination of braided leather and extra long wrap around ankle straps elevate these icy blue sling backs into something special. Try pairing them with dark navy tights, or wrapping the straps around your jeans.

Speaking of jeans these are one of my favourite shapes from this season’s high street: the high waist and relaxed fit suits everyone, and the split hem detail elongates the leg. These will be with you for years to come.

These joggers combine the luxe of real leather with the irresistible comfort of sportswear. Try them with the Zara heels and body on this list, or with a beret and a colourful belt for an 80s vibe. Chunky boots and a fitted blazer will also look great. The wear you will get out of these more than justifies the price tag.

From the subtly nipped in waist to the dropped shoulder and half sleeves, this crisp dress is a winner. The white denim looks fresh, and you can dress it up or down according to your needs.
Which one of these is your favourite? Is there a hero piece you think I’ve left off the list? Let me know!
