Sweet Nostalgia

I don’t really get nostalgic in the way most people do. I don’t go pining for what were better days, I don’t see something or hear a song and sigh, but I do miss certain trends. I’m going to pick a trend I miss for myself and one that I miss for women (I hope this doesn’t sound sexist).

For me to wear I’d have to say parachute pants. When I went to high school in the 80’s (this shows my age) I used to wear parachute pants. Not the baggy pants dancers wear that look like they have a load in their pants, but tight pants made out of parachute material with zippered pockets all over them.

When I was younger, I was (and still am) a rocker, and I’d go to school in parachute pants and a metal shirt. I was always told they made my ass (and my bulge) look nice (not sure how they’d make my ass would look now though).

These pants were comfortable, snug fitting, but not too tight like tight jeans because they had a little elasticity to them. they had zippers at the bottom of the legs so if you wore shit kicker boots, they’d still fit over them if you wanted them too.

Now if they made a comeback, I think they’d still be hot in the rocker scene or maybe the BDSM scene which I’m both part of. They were fun and trendy at the time but less trendy than leather pants (and less expensive).

The only downfall of them is after a few months they’d rip easily, usually in the crotch area. If it happened when out and about, that may not be so much fun, especially at school. They weren’t like torn jeans that when torn would usually be ok for a bit, when these got a rip, it would get bigger quickly.

Beside this little weakness, they were great pants. I think they could fix this pretty easily now, by making a stronger material but with similar characteristic.

Something I’d like to see come back for woman is tube tops. I know they’re kind of here, but you don’t see them that often. I found them sexy and when you’re dating someone who wears a tube top, they’re easy access. It doesn’t matter how big her breasts are, they still look good in a tube top also like a belly shirt (which is another fad I’d like to see come back) you had a good view of her stomach.

Tube tops were also very simple. I knew women who would take a tee shirt and cut it into either a tube top or half shirt. Now there are sports bras which are also sexy, but something about a half shirt that was even more appealing.

Like I said, I don’t really get nostalgic like most people. If I see something I like, and the trend is from the past, its not because of remembering good times, but rather remembering why I thought it looked good. I’m more of a futurist, I like looking forward and only looking back to remember not to make the same mistakes I’ve made in the past.

Trends will come and go and some will come back. Some I wish would never come back (cough, Disco), but some are worth given a second shot because they were cool or fun. Parachute pants and tube tops are sexy and fun, I guess that’s my tiny bit of nostalgia? They’re not something I’ve actually thought about in a while, but this topic brought back some memories, nostalgic memories, I don’t know.
