Ever skeptical, I have been scrolling past the Stitch Fix ads on Facebook for literally years. Oh I’ve clicked a few times and even answered some of the style questions but I always back out assuming the promises were too good to be true. Until last Friday.....

Every time one of their alluring ads showed its face, I would pause, admiring the cute items... but then just as quickly I would scroll on by telling myself:

“It will be too expensive!”

“I won’t like the clothes they pick.”

“It will be a big hassle.”

“It will just be cheap junky clothes.”

“The rules will be difficult and I will end up with clothes I don’t really want.”

“It will be WAY too expensive!!!”

Well I guess quarantine finally got to me. I couldn’t take it any longer. My ten year old was growing out of her clothes. We had pared her wardrobe down to bare essentials and it was time. Either we had to go to a store and buy her some outfits or……. There was another option…..

STITCH FIX

Now that they have Stitch Fix for Kids,,,, And the clothes look so cute!

We snuggled on my bed one evening and we did it. She felt special, we had girl time, we didn't have to leave the house... and it was really fun. We got to look at outfits and say "Yes or No." We answered questions and sent several notes to her personal stylist who we had not even met yet! I will be honest, even then, I almost backed out. What if it turned out terrible and she was disappointed. What if we hated all the clothes? What if it was really expensive and then I felt trapped into buying something so she wasn’t bummed out?

After sharing my concerns and trying to lower her expectations we exchanged nervous looks and I clicked "Order." WHEW that was easier than I thought. They charged my Paypal $20.00 for the stylist’s fee, which would be applied as a credit to the purchase if we chose anything from the box that was due to arrive in exactly ONE week. I will admit it, we were both excited.

Friday came and sure enough there was a package addressed to my daughter dropped right on our doorstep. Ok This was definitely TOO easy.

The clothes came in two cute bundles rolled up in brown paper, with a mystery bag which turned out to be very cute shoes. She unrolled each bundle and held up the items to get her first impressions. “Oh no!” I kept saying, “This is terrible, they are so cute, how are we going to send anything back?” It was not my intention to keep the whole box even though they offer a 25% discount off the entire order if you keep it all. At this point we had still not found the individual prices and I admit I was a little nervous even though we had checked the lowest budget option on the initial questionnaire.

These are the items she ended up keeping. Aren't they just so cute?

The paperwork that came with the order was so helpful. There was a sheet with a picture of each included item and then a price sheet. She also received a personal note from her stylist which contributed to making her feel special.

Next was a fashion show. She got to try everything on, and see what she liked and didn’t like and ask the opinions of her enthusiastic family. This got a little tiring and we ended up finishing the next day. She tried everything on the first day but was too tired out to make decisions. There were a few easy no’s and one definite yes. She wore her favorite item the rest of the day and we decided to sleep on the other decisions.

this was her favorite

The next day, we reviewed the options and compared them to the clothes she already had making sure many items coordinated to produce lots of cute outfits. We eliminated a few more things that did not fall in my price comfort zone.

When we had finished, she ended up with a new pair of very comfortable pants that fit perfectly and 3 adorable shirts that were flattering, comfortable and just her style. There was a fourth shirt she really loved but it was a bit small so we sent it back and on the feedback form I clicked exchange and they will be sending the next size up in the mail.

Exchanging for a different size was a breeze

Check out was so easy. For each item, I simply clicked “Keep” “Return” or “Exchange.” Then there are questions about each item to help the stylist learn more about our preferences. After providing feedback to our stylist and verifying we liked her and wanted the same stylist if we do it again, I checked out. The shirts ranged in price from $14 - $20 the pants were $20. I spent way less than $100 and she is set for everything she needs besides socks.

The quality was good. The items were attractive and showed decent construction. I expect we will do this again.

Now, I have to get up enough courage to try it for myself next time!

these are cute too....

If you wish to try Stitch Fix for yourself or your child I have a referral code that will give you a $50 credit towards your first order. (I get one too, if you order) If you only kept a few items this could give you your first order entirely free! This offer expires this week, but after that we can still both get $25 which is nothing to sneeze at either.
