Ladies, put down what you're doing and let's talk playlists! Is there a song that pulls you in like a magnet, making you want to press play over and over again?

For us, music is so much more than just background music. It's our first cup of coffee in the morning, our bath salts to soothe fatigue after get off work, the glueless wigs that bring convenience and beauty to life, and a private space for late-night conversations. Especially for us Black women, music carries our history, our strength, our joy, and our struggles. Those beats and those lyrics often speak to our deepest feelings.

Lately, my playlist has become my spiritual energy station. Let me share a few songs that have me going crazy. See if any of them resonate with you:

1. SZA - "Snooze"

This song is like a "soul massager" to me. SZA's voice is silky smooth with a touch of languidity, capturing the desire for a moment of peace with the right person in a frenetic world. The line "I can't lose when I'm with you" feels like a gentle embrace every time I hear it. When I'm so busy I lose myself, this song reminds me: your feelings and needs are equally important.

2. Beyoncé - "TEXAS HOLD 'EM"

The queen's every move is a testament to her power! Having burst onto the country scene since the days of "RENAISSANCE," Beyoncé has once again proven her omnipotence. "TEXAS HOLD 'EM," with its bouncy banjo beat, still exudes a powerful queenly presence. It seems to say: I make the rules, I rule the stage. Every time I listen to it, I feel like my own Burmese curly wig, walking with the wind, my confidence surging. This is our unabashed brilliance!

3. Kehlani - "After Hours"

If you're going through emotional turmoil and need a song to soothe your soul, Kehlani's R&B ballad is the perfect choice. Her honest and vulnerable vocals, paired with a smooth melody, perfectly capture the complexities of midnight contemplation over a lost love. This song resonates deeply with the Black community because it speaks to a genuine, unvarnished story of emotions we all share.

4. Doja Cat - "Agora Hills"

Looking for something a little different? Doja Cat never fails to surprise. This song combines her signature playful vocals with a catchy beat and bold, playful lyrics. It showcases the diversity and creativity of Black women in musical expression—we can be sexy, playful, and rule-breaking. This song is an absolute groove you can't help but sway to.

Why do we keep listening to it on repeat?

Because that song, at that moment, became our "theme song." Perhaps the melody perfectly matched our heartbeat, or perhaps a certain lyric spoke to something we couldn't articulate. For us Black women, we find recognition, solace, and release in melodies that are both powerful and incredibly tender. From SZA's inner monologues to Beyoncé's proclamations, from the collective celebrations of Juneteenth to the awakening cries of Public Enemy, music is our most loyal ally.

Now, it's your turn!

Sisters, stop hiding. Tell me in the comments:

"What song are you currently listening to on repeat?"

Is it one of the songs mentioned above, or have you discovered a new gem of your own? Let's swap playlists, connect through music, and inject extraordinary energy into ordinary days. After all, sharing good music is one of the coolest rituals among sisters!
