So, International Legging Day is today! Moreover, this day is celebrated on October 18th every year. Of course, leggings are worn throughout the year.

In the first place, this style can be traced back to the 14th century in Scotland. Since men wore kilts; they also wore leggings which came in 2 pieces. Also, these were worn with a tunic. Usually, the leggings were made of chainmail or leather.

In the 1950s, this trend became much more popular. Audrey Hepburn was one of the first celebrities to embrace this trend. Remember, Funny Face? She wore this style in a Capri length.

In 1959, Joseph Shivers Jr. applied for a patent for lycra and spandex leggings. Hence, this began the leggings revolution.

After that time period, more celebrities started wearing this trend.

Indeed today, leggings are a big part of most people’s wardrobes. Iconic, this style combines fashion and comfort. In the same way, in the 1960s, this became a standard for exercising.
