“Unable are the loved to die, for love is immortality.” -Emily Dickinson
Oh to be the lover of a writer! For it is not just the writer that loves you, it is also the reader.
Do we not fall so deeply in love with characters?
Do we not love them as the writer does?
Do we not root for them along their journey? And grieve them, when they are gone?
Why, indeed we do.
And to be the writer…
Oh what an epic love that must be!
What story are you telling the world? Are you inspired by literary characters? Anime characters? Celebrites? Pop culture? Historical figures and icons? Songs?
Are you inspired by the words of a writer?
What are your clothes saying about you? About your interests? What messages are you communicating via apparel?
Are you telling the world you prefer comfort? High fashion? Vintage looks?
Are you like me? Living all your favorite character dreams?
I love shopping! I love colors and textures and fabrics. I love shoes. I love jewelry. I love variety.
What I love most of all, is the final “look”. The finished masterpiece. Clothing tells a story. Whether intentional or not, what we wear tells the world a story about ourselves.
I’ve always had an eye for fashion. I find great joy in styling different outfits, accessorizing them, and often remixing the style with a bit of flair.
I prefer unique “looks”, something different than what is typical or trendy. Though I do enjoy various trends; I tend to add my own spin.
When I was a little girl, I liked dolls and paper dolls and Barbie dolls. I used to love getting my Barbie dolls ready to go to events and parties. I don’t remember really getting them to the party, however; it was the “getting ready” part that is predominantly in my recollection.
As an adult, I still enjoy the getting ready process. Unfortunately, for me, I have had too many jobs where I had to dress a certain way. Boring and uninspired.
Dress codes really don’t inspire the creative mind. Instead they suck the soul out of anything remotely creative. I mean, I get it. Certain jobs require certain looks, or uniforms. Incredibly dull for a creative mind. Part of the reason I no longer work in a “traditional” role.
To spice things up a bit… I started to push the boundaries… ever so slightly. Nothing over the top or inappropriate. Nothing that was going to get me sent to HR or fired. Looking back, maybe I should have pushed the boundaries further. After all, we only live once right?
Well, if you are anything like me, then you might actually believe in past lives or alternate realities… but that’s another story for another time.
Today I am talking about living multiple lives… through characters and stories and anything else that gets the creative energy flowing.
Today I am talking about taking a walk with Poe in the cemetery and listening to his beautifully haunted words.
Today I am talking about your favorite anime characters and sending a high five out to all the cosplayers.
Today I am talking about Elvis, The King of Rock and Roll. I’m talking about Johnny Cash, The Man in Black. I’m talking about Aaliyah, R&B Princess and her unique style.
Of all the lives I’ve lived, I want this one to be my favorite. Or at least the one that I was unafraid. Maybe the one that I help change the world.
How do you want to live?
Who is inspiring your fashion?
What story are you telling the world?
