Cow Print And 5 Other Trends We Aren't Taking Into 2021

Also, take it easier on the double neon

By Jean KrugerPublished 5 years ago 3 min read

Here is a complete list of all the fashion misses I'm donating to the clothing bin for 2021.

The worst trend of all is women bringing down other women. It’s never cute to shame women. So I’m focusing on my own wardrobe pierces that I need to let go of.

1. Animal print or neon anything

I'm not jumping ship, I can't even get on board. These outfits feel like the worst parts of the 80's aerobics boom. I'm not trying to be a 'cool mum' so why am I dressing like one? No, you can't do drugs in the basement with your friends. I'm making you a vegetable sharing plate instead. Neon takes me back to 2012 when Supre used to only make leggings and crop tops. I think that's an exclusively Australian joke but I'm leaving it in.

2. Chinese dragon print on white girls

This one feels borderline problematic. Even if I find the design appealing. As a little white girl, trying to pull off the Chinese dragon print feels as bad as having a shirt with Chinese characters I can't read on it. I'm looking at you 2014. I know you feel like you can get away with it at the moment but trust me in 5 years you will look back and cringe.

3. Tartan skirts... Yikes!

Tartan skirts are also on the NO list. This design transports me back to the worst time of my life, highschool. Not just that, it reminds me of the sexualisation and fetishisation of school children. I know it's a bit of a political leap but wearing one of these makes me feel that I'm perpetuating this culture. I also think it being on the bus after school and the comments I got from older men. Does this still happen in the US even without school uniforms? Probably.

Let kid's be kids! Don't make it weird!

4. Cow print

I know cow print is technically animal print so technically I've already dunked on it. I have to give it, it's own section of terribleness though. I pretended for many months to be OK with and accepting of cow print. It's pushed me to the brink, and it needs to be MOOVED on. Sorry. Maybe I do need to revisit the cool mum thing. It might do me some good.

5. Bike shorts as fashion

Bike shorts have dragged on for a few years and while I recognise the comfort and chaff stopping magic, I can't cheer them on as a going-out look. This one is hypocritical. I will keep my bike shorts because they are not fashion bike shorts! I wear them as a utility item under dresses or skirts to stopping my legs rubbing together. I also exercise in them. And sometimes I wear them to bed. Okay so maybe I wear them all the time. I promise there is a big distinction though. Paired with a leather jacket and some heels I feel nauseous.

6. Underwear made from cheap offcuts

The fast fashion industry is just insulting us at this point. They think just because we are capitalist slaves we won't notice that this underwear is beyond cheap. The worst part is the price usually doesn't match the quality. They are passing these off at $10 a flimsy piece.

On a brighter note, I'm still on into puffy sleeves, faux corsets and lacey camis.

You wear whatever you want and feel good in though, don't let the basic opinions of this internet presence damage your self-esteem. After all, I did talk about my chaff for a while there, not sure I'm the best source.
