Choosing the Perfect Designer Lehenga for Day and Night Weddings

This blog talks about choosing the perfect lehengas according to the day and night weddings.

A wedding is the ideal time to wear a designer lehenga, but the outfit chosen depends on the time of day of the celebration. A day wedding lehenga will not look the same in the night lights, and the evening celebration lehenga may look too heavy for the day events. Learning how colors, fabrics, and embellishments work differently in day and night light will help you select the most flattering look for every wedding moment.

Designer Lehengas for Day Weddings

Weddings during the day have a beautiful natural look. You can wear colors, textures, and embroidery that you cannot do at night by using the light of the sun for the day. For this reason, day wear for a wedding almost always features lighter colors and lighter materials. For instance, pastels, ivory, peach, baby pink, powder blue, and mint green, are popular options. For a day wedding, pastel colors are the best options and the reason for this is that pastels are reflective of natural light and give a lovely glow to the bride or person who is wearing them in natural daylight.

Materials for the clothing matter as well. We think of materials with less weight, so fabrics like georgette, chiffon, net or organza all allow for movement and keep you comfortable in the sun. Designer lehengas tend to be in lightweight materials and the embroidery can be anything from thread work to mirror work and sequins are used less often. Whatever is less or minimal is what we want for day weddings and a lehenga should feel elegant, not overdone and overwhelming.

Jewelry for day weddings are usually kept to a minimum too. The polki sets, pearls, or pastel colored gemstones, all go very well with a soft lehenga color. A wispy floral bun or loose curls creates a fresh look. Generally speaking, at a day wedding, you want to appear beautiful, breezy or light, elegant without too much formal drama.

Designer Lehengas for Night Weddings

The atmosphere of a night wedding allows for drama and creativity with color and styling. The right outfits can be unforgettable: being under artificial light allows your darker and deeper colors to stand out beautifully. Deep maroon, royal blue, deep emerald green, wine, and metallic gold, are magnificent for evening functions because it adds to the glamour and fantastical staging under lights.

Heavy fabrics (e.g. velvet, silk, brocade) are better for every extravagance for a celebratory night event. This would be your chance to use intricate embellishments (e.g. zari, zardozi, sequins, stonework) as well. The way the embroidery sparkles and shimmers (with the right craftsmanship) under lights provides the kind of regal aesthetic and presence, worthy of a bridal extravagance. Designer lehengas with layered skirts and embellished dupattas or blouses with structure are naturally made for the evening.

Shine in the evening as well, with heavier jewelry or a statement piece or two. Diamond sets, kundan choker sets, layered jewelry styling, all work nicely with rich colored lehengas. The makeup application can also lend itself to deeper expression with the smoky eye, or shinier lip, as well as, the prettier dewy face that also adds to the desired glam. Night weddings are an opportunity for extraordinary and once-in-a-lifetime styled look.

How to Decide Between Day and Night Lehengas

When selecting a lehenga for either the day or the night, always keep in mind the location and format of the wedding, as well as your own comfort. If it is an outdoor wedding in warm weather, then choose colors that are lighter and more breathable fabric. If it is an indoor event in the evening timeline, then deeper colors and heavier embellishments will make more sense. Just make sure it is in balance. If you wear a heavily embroidered lehenga, then your accessories should be understated (think earrings instead of a big necklace, even if it is bold!). If you wear a plain, elegant lehenga, then you can try a bold piece of jewelry.

Consider how the photographs will come out - lighter shades tend to be gorgeous during the sunlight, and dark shades are fun due to the contrast they create in nighttime lighting. You want your look to be applicable to the time of day yet enhance the overall look of the celebration!
