The woman I most admire

By Bianca SandersPublished 5 years ago 3 min read

I am the woman I most admire. I’m a 31 years old black fashion designer from Detroit, Mi. When I graduated high school in 2008, I didn’t know what I wanted to do with my life or which career to pursue. I just knew I wanted to make money to support and provide for myself. Around this time my mom went into the medical for field for pharmacy so I did the same. After a year of working as a pharmacy tech I knew I didn’t want to go further in that field. I knew I had a different calling and purpose in life. I always had a love for fashion, shopping and dressing up. So I decided to study fashion.

I attend the Fashion Institute for design and Technology in Troy, Mi in 2013. Initially I was suppose to get my bachelors degree in fashion design and merchandising. The school closed early and I didn’t finish my degree. I didn’t let that discourage me I just continued my education thru YouTube. The only actual fashion courses I learned in fashion school was Sketching and Clothing Construction 1. I really learned how to design and sew thru my imagination and YouTube videos on sewing. I’m a fast hands on learner and I discovered that on my fashion journey.

I was always good at drawing and have great hand eye coordination. I was rediscovering my talent that I had as a child and it came back to me full circle as an adult. Once I opened my god given gift I decided to call my clothing line From~B. It is my gift from god to the people. My clothing line represents my personal style and vision. I wanted my clothes to fit all women of all different shapes and sizes. The main material I use is the stretchy fabric so that the fit is customized to the body.

Back in 2014 when I created my first design I could see my future flash rite in front of my eyes. I could see myself doing fashion week for New York, Los Angeles and Paris. So I continued perfecting my craft year after year. Progressing and challenging myself to create different styles each time a made a new collection. I start doing all the local fashion shows in Detroit to showcase my talent. For seven years I’ve been teaching myself how to sew and design from scratch with just some fabric and sewing machine. I’ve created over 300 one of a kind pieces that doesn’t have any duplicates.

Now I want to expand my brand start producing my designs thru a manufacturing company. That’s a steep investment but I believe in myself and know I’m worth it. In 2021 I can say my dreams of participating in fashion week are coming true. I changed my entire mindset and lifestyle in order to make my dreams realistic. I’m saving all my money to pay for my produced collection and for my fashion week spot in New York. I had to cut off all negative relationships and energy and only focus on my goals and positivity.

For those of you who never had a dream, it’s like not being able to go one day without thinking of something you love. It's something you can’t live without. It’s something you think of every night before you fall asleep. This type of practice can manifest your thoughts into reality. Anything you can see in your mind you can have in your reality. I live by this motto everyday. Without focus and determination I would have never made it this far and so close to my ultimate goals; to become a legendary fashion designer. My mind, body and spirit is aligned and I’m ready to rip that runway. I am Bianca Sanders the fashion Goddess and the woman I most admire. Never give up!
