The sun's out and so are your toes, so it's time to get them summer ready! This 5 step at-home pedicure is simple and will help you step into those open toe shoes with confidence. Set the mood for relaxation with candles and a drink to sip on.

Step 1

Remove the polish from your last pedicure. A full nail has grown to a french tip? I'm not judging. I recommend a soy nail polish remover since it's more gentle on your nails than pure acetone. Soak a cotton ball and wipe your toe nails until they are clean. For gel polish, cut a piece of tin foil just big enough to wrap around the top half of your toe. Soak a cotton ball and place it on your toe nail, wrapping the tin foil around to keep it in place. Let it sit for about 10-15 minutes. This will break down that top layer of gel so you can wipe the rest off!

Step 2

Time to soak your feet! This step is so relaxing. At the salon, I always use this step to make my final decisions on which color I'm getting. Fill your tub, or a large glass bowl, with warm water. The best part is that you get to perfect the temperature exactly how you like it. Sprinkle epsom salt in the water for therapeutic relaxation. You'll be walking on a new pair of feet! Before your water cools off and soaking comes to an end, treat yourself to a sugar scrub on your legs and feet. You soaked your rough skin and now its time to gently remove it. If you live in dry weather, your feet might be rougher than you'd like. Using a sugar scrub will exfoliate and clean your skin for the softest feet. Rinse the scrub, dry your feet and you're ready for the next step.

Step 3

The best time to clean up your toes and heels is when they're soft. The grossest but most satisfying part is cleaning your heels. A callous remover is your best friend. Make sure to use it gently since you skin is tender right now. There should be no pain when you use it! Use your tools to clean, file, buff and shape your toe nails to your desired length. I like to remove my cuticles first since they are still soft from soaking. You file can be used lightly since your toes are still soft as well. Once you're happy with how your toes and heels feel, wipe them with a towel.

Step 4

Your toes are clean and ready for a paint job. Hopefully you have an idea on what color you want. If you don't, test your top 3 colors on a paper towel so you can see how the color really applies. If you're using regular nail polish or gel, you can follow these next instructions the same. Lay a towel under your feet and place your toe separators between each toe. If your toes feel too smooth or oily, you can use a nail dehydrator which will help your regular polish or gel stick better to the nail. Apply your top coat, color coats and top coat, letting each layer dry (or cure) accordingly. For gel, follow the final step instructions depending on the brand. You're almost done!

Step 5

Clean any polish off your skin with a Q-tip and nail polish remover. Make sure your toes are completely dry before you remove your toe separators. Now finish your pedicure by massaging hydrating oil or lotion into your legs and feet. Show your heels extra love! Your toes look amazing... sit back and relax for a few minutes while your skin soaks up the hydration.

Go ahead and add this to your list of skills. An at-home pedicure is easy, clean and rewarding. Save the money and give yourself at-home pedicures all summer long! Read more on the best nail non-toxic polishes.
