5 BEST Fall Fashion Trends 2020

You're either Fashion or Fas-shunned, hunnay, let's look it up together though, just to be safe....

By Chelsea SwiftPublished 5 years ago 7 min read

It's safe to say, most of us, will be dressing from the waist up this year.

For a variety of reasons, we'll most likely be in sweatpants every day while our goals show up to work in khakis...

- so, let's take a closer look at why you have looked like this GIF below since March.

Number. One. Zoom Meetings: Thanks to the random girl in HR that suggested (during an actual crisis) that we video chat instead of voice chat.

And by suggest, I mean she just sent the actual link without asking anyone how they were feeling that day, so we now have to sit through email meetings, virtually.

We have to put on make up, yes, pants, even power through a smile while Todd says "let's circle back" for the 7th time.

Like, Todd let's just actually wrap this up with some guts, and Jen, stop asking questions you can answer later if you listen, like, have some actual consideration for the team.

I know that GIf is slightly blurry, but I also know you felt the glare through those glasses in your soul.

That GIF not only explains pandemic Zoom meetings, but it's there to clarify that this is no longer normal behavior once we get back to normal behavior, like, you either type to me or C'est La Vie.

Number. Two. Multi-Tasking Like A Boss, Because It's Kind Of A Requirement In Bossing Up: We've actually all (on purpose or accidentally) been in boss mode all year.

Like, you dressed to go to work, left early to shop, except, 5 hours later you find yourself crawling to a hot yoga class sweating through a designer T, that you'll cry into about an hour later when you realize what you've done.

Also true when you step out in your favorite yoga pants to exercise only to find yourself at a 5 hour brunch crawl instead. Basically, dress like you're going to work, the gym, the couch, and the bar - because, you are. You are all those things.

Number. Three. Reason For Weird Fashion This Year: You Have No Clue What We're Actually Doing That Day: Wait, Are we carving pumpkins or drinking them? Circle yes or yes, I'm down for both. *cancels plans due to anxiety*

Like, welcome to Fall, ladies and fellow men, where we really mean it when we say try again, because, no fashion blogger actually knows what to promote.

I mean, I get it. I know you all have goals to go International this year - but you are wearing actual socks to your meetings every day, and when you're not, you are absolutely pant-less, wishing you were in sweatpants.

By the way, if you're not familiar with last years fashion blog post, I'd suggest you take a walk back to the dressing room - go read it. It's betchy, funny, you can drink a pumpkin foam coldbrew while you pretend to work, and as always, feel free to take it personal, I know you're probably really bored with Netflix by now and you'll be needing a new way to up your heart rate this week.

Caught up on my Betchy GIF City Blog? Great! Let's drop some Fall 2020 trends.

Trend #1: Cropped Blazers + Jackets

(sips lemon drop at noon) This is trending two ways, there's the "I want to see your rib cage" in casual attire look:

And, the cropped blazer, that's jusssst long enough to pass for office attire:

I'm assuming Anna's new assistant wanted to make this the," hit the office and then the party look", except the "after party" - now involves talking to the clerk at Total Wine, more than clinking bottles with our actual friends.

It's true - also, go make friends in high places, if you're judging me, Jerry opens actual bottles for me in the store to try. Why? Because, we're both bored and we could both really use a champagne hug right now. *checks watch it's 1:13pm*

Either way, I obviously love the blazer look, it's the perfect balance between masculine and femimine energy; and I think the crop look WERKS esspecially since we're all like waist "upping it" these days.

Trend #2: Doll Dresses

YASSS, DOLLS. (buys boots to match each dress in closet)

This is for my summer/ fall transition lovers, we can now take our beloved baby doll dresses (just stands for super short, almost inapproprioate, but it's femimine, classy, slightly over-sized, and bouncy, so we get away with it) and pair them will fall boots.

Wear it with short boots, sneakers, a chic sandal, crop jacket or even buy this dress in a bold color (think metallics and bright colors) to stand out.

Trend #3. Yellow Maxi Coats

No, I'm not just saying this because I have one - I'm typing this because I already have one. Pairs nicely with classic white, animal print, and burnt henna. (see cute Burnt Henna bag below, in case you thought that was an incense stick you light for mediation, I feel you - sames)

By the way, go read last years blogs (yes, two) after this for all the Fall Fashion feels - BUT, (obviously) coats are always in- like no major surprise in Chicago, when it's cold, we need a hot bevie, and a coat.

Your typical fall coat? It's tan, it's nude, it's neutral, it's camel, you get it and most likely, you get it beige. However, your most inspiring fall coat will come from a color on the Pantone guide. (see below)

Yup. Buy a coat in your favorite color, match it up with your fabric that's trending that season, and you'll always be in boss mode, while feeling like you actually made a decision in your own life this year.

Example Below: Ultramarine Green, Crop, PU Leather Jacket

After all, any of these "street style" articles you're reading for tips, really just translate to "personal style". So if you're not loving the crop or the leather or even the color? Just switch it up!

Go follow your stylish nose, much like your soul, it already knows the way to step up your average coat game.

Trend #4. TYGA

No, not him - the print.

Every year, there's a new animal in town *hash tag, it me* - (be sure to listen to me drink + meditate + motivate + inspire you + every morning = on my podcast show after this: Chelsea Swift Is Your Spirit Animal - available on: Spotify + Apple + Pandora)

Anyways. This year? It's all about being the King, the King of the Tigers.

See, who said pop culture is dead and can't live on through our attire? Pair it with the following 2020 trends: chained mid-boot or slouched tall boot, black PU leather jacket, and the new chain necklace + hoop combo, as seen below (that middle one actually reminds me of my 8th grade picture- same mood)

Trend #5. It's A Nice Day For A White Wedding

Did Billy Idol play or were you born after'04? Either way, after careful deliberation, I decided to pick this trend (classics, all white like we own the place) because, it serves me personally.

Mhm. As a newly engaged female that has put wedding plans on hold due to the current state of the economy....

(Pause: If you're reading this past the year 2045: we stayed home 90% of the time. Powered through with booze, pets, memes, probably some weed or medication, definitely homemade cookies, soup, maybe some exercise, Instagram DM's, Netflix, music, more booze, and podcasts)

Anyways. Back to fall trends and fall wedding attire, I'm rolling harder on this white trend than I ever did in the club. Girls, you can find me looking formal AF in a wedding style skirt/sweater combo this season...

....and, all you hating ASH (yes, ash - if you have time to hate, you have time to moisturize) betches can catch the bouqet....

No cares. No cares. NOPE. None. Go cancel your dream wedding or put it on hold, and come back when you're ready to apologize.

Exactly. Apology accepted. Now queue, every brides face this year wearing white whenever they feel like it without apologizing:

So, ladies, if this is you - if you can relate to staring at your beloved Pinterest board while we just, I dunno? Age and simultaneously contemplate daily exercise...

Then I suggest you wear the bridal vibes dress, the bridal vibes sweater, the bridal vibes skirt, not just as reminder to self that you're amazing and you can power through anything, but do it for inspiration.

Do it to keep the vibes alive, do it to keep your wedding spirits high (raises champagne glass)

Trust me. If anyone's earned the bridal vibe this season, it us - hash tag, engaged AF brings on a whole new meaning when we might be here for awhile, which means we might as well have a good time.

Cheers to fall and all things cozy, my fellow brides and beauty queens!

Remember, when it comes to fashion and style, your personal vibe is everything and will always look the best- the only real rule is, if it makes you look like awful, burn it immediately.

LOVE YOU. See you on today's podcast xoxo - Chelsea
