Why Do You Keep Waiting But Nothing Changes?
“Just wait… it’ll get better.” Sounds familiar, doesn’t it?

“Just wait… it’ll get better.”
Sounds familiar, doesn’t it?
Leila, one of my therapy clients, used to say this all the time during our sessions.
She wasn’t lazy, and she wasn’t unaware.
She was hoping.
Hoping that if she waited long enough, the pain would disappear, the problems would fix themselves, and her motivation would magically return.
A few months later, she sat in front of me and said:
“Ali, I waited. I really did. But nothing changed. Actually… some things got worse.”
That conversation stayed with me.
Because it’s something I’ve seen so many people experience.
They wait, they endure, they hold on – but deep down, they feel more stuck than ever.
Let me ask you the same question I asked Leila:
Are you truly being patient – or are you just avoiding action?
Patience vs. Endurance
Here’s the thing most people confuse:
Patience is not the same as endurance.
Patience involves awareness, intention, and direction.
Endurance often looks like you’re waiting, but in reality, you’re frozen in place.
Enduring pain without making a move is like sitting in a car that’s turned off, hoping it will take you somewhere.
Time alone won’t heal if you’re just looping the same thoughts, fears, and self-doubt.
Time can only help you if you’re moving within it.
Your Brain Loves Repetition – Even the Painful Kind
Here’s what most people don’t realize:
Your brain loves what’s familiar.
Even if what’s familiar is anxiety, burnout, overthinking, or sadness.
When you keep waiting for change without action, your brain just repeats the same emotional patterns.
The same negative thoughts
The same hesitation
The same fear of doing something different
This is why so many people feel like they’re stuck in a loop – because, in many ways, they are.
4 Self-Reflection Questions to Break the Cycle
If this resonates with you, pause for a second.
Ask yourself these questions honestly:
What is actually keeping me stuck right now?
Do I believe I deserve to feel better – or have I given up on that idea?
What am I afraid might happen if I take action?
What’s one small thing I can do today to move in a better direction?
Sometimes the smallest insight is the spark for real movement.
In therapy, we often start with these very questions.
Because insight without action leads to guilt — but insight with action leads to growth.
From My Experience as a Psychologist
I’m Ali Andi, a psychologist.
And I’ve worked with people just like Leila – people who wanted change, but felt paralyzed.
What I’ve learned over and over is this:
Real change doesn’t start with time. It starts with you.
The first step doesn’t need to be dramatic.
It could be a short message to a therapist.
Or writing a thought in a notebook.
Or finally saying, “I need help.”
You don’t have to do it perfectly.
You just have to start.
