My Notebook.

Dear family, please read it when I'm not looking.

Dedication: These are my pleas. Please read when I am not here. This is our secret door. Cherish it.

If you want to help me, then bring me breakfast.

If you want to help me, then read one of my books from my shelf and bring it up after casually. "What did you think about..."

If you want to help me, ask me what brings me joy.

If you want to help me, ask me to explain things in analogies.

If you want to help me, then do your own laundry.

If you want to help me, search for and show me a breathing exercise video. Let's try it together.

If you want to help me, say "you are safe here" and then prove it.

If you want to help me, order a pizza and have it delivered.

If you want to help me, wash the dishes and put them away without saying anything at all.

If you want to help me, buy me notebooks and pretty pens.

If you want to help me, give me an hour to shower all alone.

If you want to help me, give me creative tasks to make somewhere feel more like home.

If you want to help me, ask me about one thing I have always wished to accomplish. And remember it when I tell you.

If you want to help me, write me a holiday card for every occasion. Don't just sign a prefilled card. Write me a memory, wish, or reminder. I will save them all.

If you want to help me, send me videos on how to DIY or do things in the home. Send me lessons and I will listen.

If you want to help me, stop setting alarms and alerts with beeps. Start making room for me to intuitively tell time. Write down reminders on post its and put them on my computer monitor.

If you want to help me, then do not assume but instead directly ask me questions that allow me to elaborate and give examples. I do not talk in "yes" or "no".

If you want to help me, make those important phone calls and pick up the things that have to get bought.

If you want to help me, hug me without asking if I am okay. Just hug me for the touch of it.

If you want to help me, read my stories.

If you want to help me, save your worries and fears in exchange for hard facts and a healthy PRO CON list.

Page: 6 Date:

If you want to help me, remember my favorite songs.

If you want to help me, use gentle tones and look me in the eyes when you talk to me.

If you want to help me, say "I felt hurt or disappointed" instead of "You are so disappointing" or "I can't believe you did this".

If you want to help me, say "you did nothing wrong" when I say I am sorry for the 100th time.

If you want to help me, when I do mess up just tell me straight forward when it happens or soon after. And offer to help me resolve the issue or hear out how I will fix it.

If you want to help me, look up some resources and read them so you can understand more about complex PTSD. Do not ask me for resources. Find them on your own. Know me from a different angle.

If you want to help me, be mindful and considerate of the fact that I get touched out and irritated by having everyone around me. Loud noises, fast movements, and having my own kids hanging from me all day can leave me feeling really depleted. I am working on how I handle that. Please just remember that it happens and I still love my kids, even though I need breaks and times to decompress in my own energy.

If you want to help me, do not hold my worst times against me. I am working on myself. I desperately want to be better. I think about it daily. I desire to be stronger, calmer, and happier daily. I am trying. Please try too.

THE NOTEBOOK CONCEPT.

Keeping a notebook open for those I love to see helps me write freely and honestly about how I feel. It allows me to ask for what I need in a way that could be considered baby steps.

This practice is sacred and part of my healing journey. The way I utilize this book will be unique, as it will be for whomever else adopts this tradition.

I might even give my whole family notebooks to practice their own honest writing and recording of what they want, need, and feel.

May we all feel better as we open up and pour out our souls.
