Introverts in Society
We should treat extroverts and introverts equally!
"Who is an Introvert?"
Introvert is basically a psychological term. This term was first introduced by "Carl Jung", a famous 20th-century psychologist. As we all know "Psychology" is the study of human behavior, the human mind, and its functions. An Introvert is a kind of shy person; someone who enjoys spending time alone and has a reserved kind of nature. The contrary word of "Introvert" is "Extrovert"; someone who enjoys being surrounded by a group of people, someone who is much more social than an introvert.
We are surrounded by different kinds of people. There are "Introverts", "Extroverts", and a mix of these two types of people. In our schools, our workplaces, our families, amusement places, everywhere we do experience people who are Introverts, Extroverts, and a mix of both. But, the question here is that "Which kind of people our society accepts, likes, or prefers to deal with; an Introvert or an Extrovert?" i.e. do we people as a part of this society prefer those who are talkative, spotlight seekers or socially confident over those who are quiet, reserved, and thoughtful individuals? Obviously, the society where we reside in is actually "Perfection Lovers". We people run after perfect and bright things instead of those which have flaws or are dim in nature, although we all are well-aware of the facts that "All that Glitters is not Gold" and "Nothing is Perfect in this whole world".
Whether it's any educational institute, any workplace, or a shopping center the focus of our attention are those students, co-workers, or human beings who are very loquacious, babbling, jolly, and socially confident. This is a fact that at schools, colleges, and universities teachers prefer those students who are eager to raise their hands during lectures, who raise questions, who take part in curricular, as well as extra-curricular activities. Isn't it? This is actually giving importance to "Extroverts". At workplaces, those who take part in more activities (the extroverts) are usually given the "Leadership Positions". But, research and studies around the world have proven that Introverts are far more intelligent and brilliant as compared to Extroverts. Although they (the introverts) speak less and observe more when they are provided with the opportunities to share their recommendations they give us the best creative and novel ideas. In many countries around the world, there are many examples that show that wherever the introverts have been selected as leaders or to head certain projects, they have given more productive and successful outcomes.
In many developing countries, where there are so many social ills like corruption, red-tapism, leg-pulling, references, and many more. In such countries the definition of an Extrovert is a bit different, the one who falls in an elite-class category is more extroverted and all others are somehow Introverts. Anyhow, in international perspectives of Introverts and Extroverts we still prefer the second category. At our schools, colleges, universities, workplaces, everywhere we give projection to those who are socially confident beings. In order to keep a balance, we should not ignore the power of "Introversion" too.
In my opinion, we should treat both the Extroverts as well as the Introverts equally. Extroverts are the ones who can ask for their rights themselves without hesitation but the Introverts as I already said are kind of hesitant people, therefore, should be given special attention. They must be given some space. They are also equally important as the Extroverts are. There should be opportunities for them, whether in educational institutes, workplaces, families, etc. We can help the Introverts at starting stages of their careers i.e. educational institutes in different forms like; special counseling teams, training staff, and training sessions. Also, teachers and staff should be given training in order to cope with such types of students. The educational institutes and all other departments can introduce special portals for Introverts where they can share their thoughts and questions they are unable to share in front of a whole crowd of people. Such techniques can provide Introverts the ways of expressing their inner feelings and ideas in a comfortable way. This course of action for Introverts can help in promoting a country's hidden talents as most of the world's population consists of Introverts. Thus, giving developing countries a chance of economic and social prosperity.
