I Can't Focus
How I Work Towards Improving My Focus & Unleashing My Intelligence

The Struggle with Focus
Have you ever found yourself struggling to focus, no matter how hard you try? That was me—not too long ago—constantly battling distractions, unable to concentrate on even the simplest tasks. My perspective on focus changed when I began exploring the connection between our bodies, emotions, and mental clarity. Here’s how I’ve been working towards improving my focus and unleashing my intelligence.
Understanding the Importance of an Empty Stomach
One of the first things I learned was the connection between an empty stomach and mental clarity. When your digestive system is constantly processing food, a significant amount of energy is diverted, affecting both your brain and body’s efficiency. I realized that keeping your stomach empty for one and a half to two and a half hours after eating ensures optimal functioning.
I started paying attention to how my body and mind felt before and after meals. Surprisingly, I noticed a significant improvement in my focus when I wasn’t feeling too full. My mind was sharper, and I could concentrate on tasks for longer periods. This simple adjustment—eating lighter and timing my meals—began to enhance my ability to stay focused throughout the day.
The Power of Posture. Folding Legs and Sitting Upright

Physical posture plays a crucial role in enhancing mental focus. Sitting with folded legs and an erect spine can dramatically improve brain function. At first, I was skeptical—how could something as simple as folding my legs change anything? But I decided to give it a try.
To my surprise, adopting this posture while working or even during meditation sessions helped me feel more grounded and alert. It was as if my body was now supporting my mind in staying focused. This practice has since become a daily habit, one that subtly but powerfully boosts my mental clarity.
Bringing Attention Back. The Role of Mindful Breathing
Another powerful tool I discovered is the practice of mindful breathing. Attention is the key to unlocking any door in the universe, and breath is a simple yet profound device to cultivate this attention.
I began incorporating short sessions of mindful breathing into my day, especially during moments when my focus started to wane. Just a few minutes of conscious breathing helped me regain clarity and refocus my thoughts. It’s astonishing how something as basic as paying attention to your breath can have such a profound impact on your mental state.
Devotion as a Focus Tool. Falling in Love with What You Do

Perhaps the most profound insight I encountered was the concept of devotion as a means of focus. When you fall in love with something—be it a task, an object, a person, or devotion to God—your attention naturally becomes laser-focused on it. This is a joyful and effortless way to enhance concentration, as opposed to the strain of trying to force yourself to focus.
I began applying this by emotionally involving myself in my work. Instead of seeing tasks as mere chores, I started viewing them as opportunities to express my devotion to what I love. This shift in perspective made focusing not just easier, but enjoyable. I found myself fully immersed in my work, with a level of attention that I hadn’t experienced before.
Embracing a New Way of Focusing
Since I started applying these techniques, my ability to focus has improved remarkably. By understanding the importance of an empty stomach, adopting a supportive posture, practicing mindful breathing, and approaching tasks with devotion, I’ve been able to unlock new levels of mental clarity and intelligence. These practices have not only helped me stay focused but have also made the process of focusing a joyful experience.
If you’ve been struggling with focus like I was, I encourage you to experiment with these practices. They might seem simple, but their impact can be profound. After all, focus is not just about discipline—it’s about how we engage with our bodies, minds, and the world around us.
