hypnotherapy explained

a quick look at hypnotherapy

Hypnotherapy isn’t 1, 2, 3 clicking fingers and sleep. In fact hypnotherapy is nothing to do with sleep. Stage hypnosis is very different to hypnotherapy. Most people don’t know that even under hypnosis you are still in control and can bring yourself out if the hypnotherapist is trying to change things that go against your core beliefs. A hypnotherapist can only change things your sub conscious agrees with so if you want to quit smoking then they can help you, however if you see a hypnotherapist because your partner wants you to quit smoking then the hypnosis will be ineffective as your sub conscious still wants to smoke. You have to want the change consciously and sub consciously. Hypnotherapists are miracle workers.

There are different levels of hypnosis that work in different brain wave levels. Some things only require a light level of hypnosis where as others like deep routed issues need to be done under heavier hypnosis.

Brainwaves explained- first and the highest state of awareness is the gamma brainwave state, which is 40Hz and above, where we are in self-control at our peak awareness and a feeling of oneness. Lower down is the beta brainwave state, 13-39Hz, where concentration, arousal, motivation and problem solving happens. Next is the alpha brainwave state, 7-13Hz, where creativity, focus, learning and serotonin boosts happen. After this is the theta state, 4-7 Hz, this is where inner peace takes place, deep meditation, addiction help and healing take place. Finally, the delta brainwave state, 4Hz and under, where pain relief, loss of bodily awareness and access to the subconscious is.

A hypnotherapist will be able to help you relax lowering your brainwave states until they can go to the delta brainwave state to help you most. Almost everyone can be hypnotised, however those trying too hard and those who don’t want to be hypnotised won’t be.

Hypnotherapy can help with a wide range of problems including stress, negativity, weight loss, quitting smoking, anxiety, unwanted habits, fears, anger, insomnia, confidence, pain management and many more.

You can’t be hypnotised against your will, nor does the hypnotherapist have control over you. You can’t get ‘stuck’ in hypnosis, you will come back to full awareness so don’t worry. You can’t be forced to reveal anything you wouldn’t normally reveal so unless you would say your deepest, darkest secrets then the hypnotherapist won’t be able to get you to say them. You are still aware what is happening around you, your brain just doesn’t feel the need to pay attention unless sounds of danger occur and you will remember what has happened. Hypnosis is safe, no damage to your subconscious can be done only changes that your sub conscious agrees to. Intelligence has nothing to do with if you can be hypnotised or not, as previously mentioned, anyone who wants to be hypnotised can be.

The number of sessions needed will vary between people and the severity of their issue they want help with. If you’re someone who is highly tense, your hypnotherapist can also help with this. Hypnotherapy is best started by relaxing the body, this will then make it easier to relax your mind. If your body is tense then your mind won’t be able to relax, meaning hypnosis will be difficult if at all possible. When you relax and calm, your pulse slows and blood pressure reduces, at this point you can see things more clearly and this is the best time to make the changes.

Hypnosis has been around for a long time (over 3000 years!) it was used by the Egyptians and Greeks.

Many of us have been in light hypnotic states without even realising, for example, have you ever arrived at your destination and can’t remember how you got there? Your mind wondered elsewhere but you don’t have an accident? This is a light hypnotic state which if a danger was to arise your sub conscious would avoid this and then snap you back to your conscious state. Your brain is truly amazing.

So basically a few facts-

• You can bring yourself out of hypnosis.

• Changes can only be made that you actually want.

• Hypnosis is a state of increased suggestibility.

• The only way you can’t be hypnotised is if you don’t want to be, or try too hard to be.

• All hypnosis is self-hypnosis, even with a hypnotherapist you have to allow it to happen.

• You can’t get stuck in hypnosis.

I hope this can clear things up for you and remember, the only way you will be running round clucking like a chicken is if you would do so normally.
