Euphoria character breakdown

Rue

We learn in season 1 that Rue lost her father and only has her mother Leslie and little sister Gia. We also learn that Rue is a 17 year old drug addict who admits she has zero intentions of ever getting clean. I feel that the show has given each character 1 reason for being as significant as they are. Rue’s reason for being such a main character is to see what will be the cause of her actually getting clean, so that being said we are being dragged through the process of seeing her fight to keep drugs in her life. We have already seen the lengths she is willing to go, lying, faking drug tests and stealing. We start off seeing Rue as this quiet, very lowkey person but in reality I think she is this loud and very outgoing person but we aren't being allowed to see it.

We see a very tender side to Rue when we see her develop feelings for Jules, but also we see that there are still limitations to that relationship. Jules expresses that she wants no part in Rue falling down this rabbit hole of poor choices and drug use, which Rue decides that she will just lie her way through in order to keep Jules. So we already see which people in her life that she isn't willing to be clean for, and I know it's much harder than just being said.

I feel that Rue plays a huge part in every character's life other than her own. She is very much an observer, she tends to be in the wrong place at the right time. Definitely doesn't come off as a snitch, she sits on whatever information kind of unknowingly waiting to connect the dots.

We have yet to see why or who started this journey for Rue but i think at some point we will see a deeper character development cause i think we are very close to seeing her drug addiction end. Either we get a new character or she has this spiritual awakening within herself and decides she truly wants to be clean.

I should add in season 2 we are kinda getting an insight of what seems to be her getting clean and going through withdrawals. I just still dont think this is the end for Rue, I think she will face an uncomfortable situation that will draw her right back.

Season 2 we are also seeing Rue burning some bridges because once again she has yet to come across anyone worth being clean for. Rue made an attempt to steal from Fez’s grandma which has burned the bridge between Rue and Fez.

Rue also went behind his back to get drugs from Fez’s dealer, which we will soon see how horrible that plays out since she has now lost all 10k worth of the drugs.

Rue has also shown a very dark side of herself when she learns that her mother got rid of the drugs but also didn't act alone in doing so. She has brought a great amount of trauma upon her sister Gia who we don't get to see as much which I also think we will see. We sadly get to see the end of Rue and Jules really before we even see the potential their relationship could have had, which if we are being honest Jules ruined those chances all on her own.

Overall I think Rue is a really good person who truly wants to make everyone happy but it's buried so deep beneath the addiction that we don't get to see it.
