Adult Life

What is it that nobody tells you about adult life?

That adult life is much, much better than childhood.

If you find yourself thinking the opposite, you are romanticising “not having any responsibility” while ignoring the other side of it, which is not having any freedom!

As a child, your happiness was totally dependent on the adults around you. Whereas as an adult, you are responsible for your own happiness and it's simply great!

While it's true that things are simpler in childhood, that's also because your perception of things is simpler, primarily because you are a child and aren't capable of grasping life in all its nuances. As an adult, this changes. You realise the context of most things sometimes to your own peril. You also risk complicating things.

But that's the best part of being an adult. That it's all on you. If you complicate things, you are free to sort them out instead of depending on someone else.

Life only gets better steadily! With experience.

Relationships get better with experience. Communication gets better with experience. Sex gets better with experience. You understand that love is a practice and a verb. It is also hard work.

With age, your edges smoothen and you learn the value of kindness and compassion above intelligence and logic. You realise that more things are likely to work out with love than with arguments, however brilliant! This makes you a better person.

Your manner of dealing with conflict gets better with age. Your manner of handling disappointments, hardships and sorrows gets better with age.

You realise how temporary most of your feelings are, with age. With a little more of age, you realise the same is true of your thoughts. With age, you learn to therefore take yourself much less seriously.

With age you also learn one of the biggest lessons your younger self usually misses - there is no ultimate meaning to life. Your life will be what you make of it. It is on you to give it meaning.

As an adult, you don’t need anybody’s permission and you can live your life on your own terms. You have complete freedom along with the intelligence and maturity to understand that freedom comes with responsibility - something I am sure your teenage self would love to realise.

10 Key Points of Adult Life

  1. Once you cross 20, your family will start expecting. The expectations increase exponentially with time. By the time, you turn 25 and still can't support your parents, you're doomed for them. Hard fact but true.
  2. Every family silently wants their son/daughter to become an engineer, a doctor, a chartered accountant, a civil servant, and the prime minister. Very few will ask you, what you really wish to do. Every family is competing with every other family.
  3. If you’re not earning in at least six figures by the end of 25, you’re not that great to be respected. You would face constant taunts about your education and caliber.
  4. Frankly, no one gives a fuck about your emotions, problems or whether you’re alive. People will only care if you’re rich, handsome and mourn for a day when you die.
  5. Most companies will only hire you with good salaries and profile if you’re good looking. Frankly speaking, they care the least about your degree. Yes, knowledge is important but you know, they know, a naughty smile works better than a skilled hand.
  6. There is a saying that, life for a woman is tough. Believe me, life for a man is 10X tougher than a woman. If you don’t get settled, you have the option to get married and chill. If we don't settle, we won't get married. Even our parents will one day tell us to die.
  7. No human being in today's generation will love you like the oldies. 90’s generation was real. Now, every human has a motive.
  8. Relationships will only work till the end if you’re fit, rich and everything. Nobody wants to stay with a jerk. Oh, you wanna talk about people with good nature and heart? Lol.
  9. The girlfriend/boyfriend, you’re hanging with, eating pizzas and ripping the chicken may leave you one day because you’re out of shape.
  10. For boys- The woman is tough with getting an orgasm. Don't just feel happy if you're done. Ask them if they are on the same page. They would never tell you.
