Xena Poem #1

Sword Sharpening

Xena and Gabrielle

How can I explain that when I said "no", there were a thousand reason, Gabrielle, why it had to be so.

You don't know who I am, what's inside of me. The fire that smolders, the anger barely controlled is something I can't let you see.

You don't understand the instinct to strike, to fight. Making passion and pain blend into shades of grey confusing wrong and right.

I know you want to be closer, Gabrielle. But how close can I let you come. If you see all that is "here" inside me, I know you'll turn and run.

So leave it be, please, you have to let it go. If you will, then I can and I have to. This is harder than you'll ever know.
