SHE PLEDGED ALONG WITH HER SISTERS DECADES AGO and now asks me "Why do we walk?"
Of course I would need to look at her with some level of serious curiosity. She pledged, I didn't. She would need to know her own secrets. Here I sit as in days of old, looking to help my aunt through her complexities of life. Short of researching the world spilled to me, I couldn't know. Several inquiries and offers to pledge to a unit in and of myself, brought no consistent resolve other than that I should need to be a man... so I approached a "brother" and "B"d him. I be'd a man. DONE. That was in response to the high ranking message brought out by that brother from his "master?" in answer to my joining the A.N.S.A.R. SHRINE and my grandfather... a free mason, was long gone. He didn't take me to the Masons.. he took me to the Elks Lodge and then to the library. The next assembly time, he went to the ELKS and dropped me off at the library. I was 8 or 9 years of age. I couldn't join either organization and said I was on hold and unless I was a son or grandson, I could not join his organization. There are women's fraternal organizations that work toward the same or similar goals.
ANSAR, PRINCE HALL, EASTERN STARS or SCOTTISH RITE... they all have reason for not allowing me, hopefully it could only be that I can never B the proper man... properly. They are all men's organizations. Other than that scenario, and pray tell I hope am not blowing centuries old secrets of "how to" and "what to" with my common sense tom foolery in asking into the fellowship (women don't FELLOWship do they?) It's as if I were being let out once more in the yard along side my grandparents home to play. At the start of life it seems one must be taught how to play in cooperation with established societal memes. There's a certain way to suckle a pacifier. There is a way to frolic in the snow or roll down a snow-covered hill. There is a certain thing to do with the snowboard, a way to sit on a sled. What does one do in the iced white fluff that hurts at the touch if held too long? Accorded nothing of secrecy, I grew up to being on the outside of it all. Girlfriend assemblies at brunch and lunch outings, proper man-woman relationships... as I saw them, I asked for the fellowship of it all... mostly as a result of parental mandate, not a personal choice. Women's social clubs, the assembled fundraisers. The assumed camaraderie. The challenges. I asked, but almost 30 years ago. In thirty years a member could climb to unspeakable heights... 33rd degree... self-projected or in a host of sisters.
IT IS A WORLDWIDE ENTITY with levels some of which are held by or accomplished only be very high ranking personalities. One would think that the connection established thru such a brotherhood and sisterhood, international wellness would be the common goal. Unfortunately for them, and despite all the positive goals set forth in my lifetime along with the compassion and charity concerns; I am not yet among them with ties.
Who was the highest Freemason?
George Washington, a young Virginia planter, becomes a Master Mason, the highest basic rank. The ceremony was held at the in Fredericksburg, Virginia.
WHY WALK? ...to show the person or persons taking it that they get a sense of pride due to the events that took place so many years ago... pride in accomplishments made.
