The Secret Party –

There is a party not many people know about. But those that do know about it want to go very badly.

It’s a party that claims to satisfy all your wants forever and turns every other party meager in comparison. Many flyers about this party promise all kinds of different wonders.

The only issue is that those flyers are not uniform and don’t give an exact address. So those who want to go don’t know what it’s like or how to get there. All they have as guiding lights are the ones who are already at the party.

But the ones already there have different opinions on how to get there.

And besides how to know whom to trust? How to know who is actually there and who isn’t?

In some ways, the descriptions are quite similar. In other ways, the descriptions differ like day and night. And speaking of day and night, is this a daytime or a nighttime party?

So before anyone starts to make their way to this party, they try to sort through all available information, rectify any contradictions, and map out a clear way. Unfortunately, this task can seem so overwhelming and unsolvable, that many spend their life planning the trip and talking with others about the party and thus, never actually go.

But once in a while, an individual is so eager to go that he can’t stand the inertia. So he just takes the first piece of information and starts moving.

He comes across many houses that claim to be host to the secret party but upon entering, sooner or later, he realizes he’s been duped. So the eager individual leaves and continues his search.

Some of the parties in some of the houses are so fantastic, however, that it’s hard for him to leave. In some of them, he spends quite a while and in many of them, he meets individuals who were also on their way to the secret party but became so entranced by another party that they abandoned their search.

Some of those individuals didn’t abandon the search knowingly. They assumed that the party they found themselves at, is the secret party. They erroneously assumed they arrived.

Those individuals serve as a wake-up call. The eager individual is reminded that he needs to get the heck out of this place and keep moving.

But o matter how eager an eager individual is, at some point, the futility of the task invites frustration and despair. After a long time of looking and searching (and not finding) in every corner it can seem impossible.

Where else can I look? Where is this secret party? Am I chasing a fantasy?

In this moment of deepest despair, the eager individual surrenders. He gives up. He can’t do it. No one can. The secret party can’t be found and will forever remain a mystery.

But then, suddenly, he perceives a faint rhythm. A faint thump thump thump, like the heartbeat of an ancient creature. Or is it his own?

He doesn’t know and doesn’t care. But with one final effort, he starts following the now increasing thump thump thump.

After a short while of walking, like a magic trick, a house is revealed. Without knowing how he knows, the eager individual knows that this is it. This is the secret party!

Eagerly, as is his nature, he walks to the house in quick and determined steps. He flies up the steps to the porch and knocks on the door.

But no one opens it.

So he tries again. And again. And again. Slamming his desperate fists against the door with first increasing and then decreasing strength.

He collapses in defeat once more.

After a short moment of self-pity, he decides to walk around the house to look for a possible entry. Everything seems to be firmly barricated until he sees a window barely open, merely a slit.

He squeezes his hands inside and pushes the window up with all the strength available, which is exactly the strength needed for the job. And then, the window is open.

In disbelief, almost timidly, he climbs in through the window. He finds himself in the middle of an empty living room and, in shock, realizes:
