If you never tuned in to Netflix's Gypsy you've miss one F'd Up (in a great way!) show. I binge watched it so hard I skipped sleeping! It was a edge of the seat psychological thriller drama series from the U.S. that Lisa Rubin created for Netflix. It features Naomi Watts as Jean Holloway, a psychologist who secretly gets involved in the personal lives of her patients. Billy Crudup plays her husband, Michael. The first season has 10 episodes and premiered on June 30, 2017.
The plot follows a therapist played by Naomi Watts, who feels a bit stuck in the dull routine of middle age. To shake things up, she starts getting deeply involved in her patients' lives. On the surface, she seems to have everything: a caring husband named Michael, a sweet daughter named Dolly, and a charming home in Connecticut. One of her clients, Sam, is having a tough time getting over his ex, Sidney. Blurring the lines of her professional role, Jean decides to track down Sidney at a coffee shop called The Rabbit Hole, where she pretends to be someone named Diane and lies about her job to connect with her.
This is a fresh perspective on the Anti Hero. We’ve seen dozens of ambitious dramas that explore the frustrations of middle-class men. It's about time that a series that focuses on a woman, who wants more than the safe life she’s settled for, comes to our screens. Jean is a female Don Draper; like the “Mad Men” protagonist, something compels her to make questionable decisions and put her respectable existence in danger.
One of the best things about the show, besides the steamy scenes between Jean and Sidney is the music. The series features such artist as Cigarettes After Sex, Charlotte Gainsbourg, The Internet, and more. There's some great songs in Gypsy!

Cigarettes After Sex
Cigarettes After Sex is a chill pop band that’s all about that dreamy vibe and deep lyrics. They kicked things off in 2008 and really made waves with their self-titled album in 2017, which includes hits like "K.," "Apocalypse," and "Nothing's Gonna Hurt You Baby." Their sound is super ethereal, leaning more towards Dream Pop, but they definitely have an Alternative edge too. Listening to their music feels like diving into a euphoric moment, almost like the visuals you’d get from a classic romantic film. The emotions in their songs are intensely romantic and powerful. In "Gypsy," they sing “Nothing's Gonna Hurt You, Baby,” and my personal favorite track is “Affection.”
Charlotte Gainsbourg
Charlotte Gainsbourg is a name you should know, especially if you’ve only heard Jimi Hendrix’s version of “Hey Joe.” She’s the daughter of the iconic Jane Birkin and the legendary Serge Gainsbourg. Charlotte made her musical debut at just 12 years old with her dad on the controversial track "Lemon Incest," which definitely turned some heads in the industry, especially in France. She’s got a knack for edgy songs like "The Operation" and "Deadly Valentine," but her rendition of “Hey Joe” that she performs in Gyspy really takes the cake!
The Internet
The Internet is a cool alternative R&B and soul band hailing from Los Angeles, California. The group features vocalist Syd, keyboardist Matt Martians, bassist Patrick Paige II, drummer Christopher Smith, and guitarist Steve Lacy. Their sound mixes R&B, hip-hop, jazz, funk, and electronic dance vibes. Unfortunately, they announced in April 2022 that they would be calling it quits after their fifth album, which was their last. In a chat with NME, Syd shared that after more than ten years in the game, the band is ready to go their separate ways, but didn’t spill any more details. In Gypsy the sang one of their standout tracks, “Girl” featuring KAYTRANADA, and it’s absolutely amazing!

A Netflix show review coupled with some great music presentation, what could be better? I haven’t seen the Gypsy, but from your review it sounds similar to Shrinking on Apple TV+ in terms of a shrink meddling with the client’s lives.
Sounds very interesting!
Sounds like a steamy series! Your article definitely entices the reader. Well done!
