This compilation of music pulls from mostly modern hip-hop and rap and a majority BIPOC artists. During the month of pride it’s important to emphasize that pride has been and is dominated, narrative-wise and representatively, by white people. But pride was given to us when activists Marsha P Johnson and Sylvia Rivera -- both trans women of color -- first started the Stonewall riots of 1969.

Here are 52 songs by gay, lesbian, bisexual, pansexual, non-binary, transgender and genderqueer artists and performers and their allies. These songs make me celebrate the diversity of the LGBTQIA+ experience while also reminding be of our unity in this community. Power, poise, resilience, tenderness, vulnerability, intimacy, and self-discovery reside within these songs, along with much more.

1. Gon Blow (feat. Rye Rye) - Cakes da Killa

Feisty and energized, Cakes da Killa and Rye Rye rock us with the beat and provide us with some stellar gay music action to keep us moving and interested.

2. Chanel - Frank Ocean

“My guy pretty like a girl / And he got 5 stories to tell / I see both sides like Chanel” …What more can be said? Frank Ocean hits us right in the heart.

3. Warm Pants - Dua Saleh

This song has been a personal keepsake for the past year -- whatever girl I’m into, I love to ruminate that intense femme-to-femme relationship that can happen.

4. Toes - Glass Animals

Being non-binary and largely identifying as transmasc, I’ve always especially loved crooning, in ecstasy, “I’m a man! I’m a twisted fool.”

5. It's Okay to Cry - SOPHIE

SOPHIE is an iconic trans electro-musician who’s recently taken to a softer approach with vocals fronting an eerie lake of synth and more.

6. Poppers! - Big Momma

Gotta love Big Momma!! He takes us in all kinds of directions with twisting gender and I just love this surprising, queer fetish music.

7. Forrest Gump - Frank Ocean

‘Forrest Gump’ has us all wishing we were gay men, watching Forrest run run run past the goalpost, never hurting a fly.

8. OOOUUU - Young M.A.

Young M.A. has served as a masc woman-identifying figure for millions. We welcome her as a rapper, identity figure, and god(dess).

9. Honey - Kehlani

When Kehlani came out, no one was surprised. Songs of hers like ‘Honey’ revealed that long ago -- and I personally have always swooned over her honesty and female tenderness.

10. Mango (Freestyle/Process) - Orion Sun, Mulch

Another heart-warming lesbian tune, Mango just brings an unbidden smile to my eyes and the corners of my lips.

11. Voodoo - Anye Elite

“Lordy lordy why you? Lordy lordy why you? Out of all the ****** out here tonight I’m like why it had to be you?” My sentiments exactly.

For the next 41 songs, it’s up to you to listen and form your own relationship and thoughts to these killer pride bump-tracks.
