Was it love or was it rebellion?

Once upon a time, there was a young couple deeply in love. They had everything going for them, except for one thing - societies consent. The boy whose names was Charles came from a wealthy family known for the production of high class silk, while the boy known as William was from a modest background that was situated on a farm not to far away but far enough to be distant to those who have seen it.

Despite the opposition from society and their fathers, the couple continued to see each other in secret. Though this would of not been possible without their mothers, their support for their sons relationship made it possible to even sustain what society would have called a broken trope. Many saw the boys as disobey the patriarchal stance that they needed to hold as young men. They would meet up in quiet places, away from prying eyes of those who opposed. However, their happiness was short-lived when Williams father, Augustus found out about their relationship and that is where it turned from only being each others world to having to protect what they hold dear to them

He forbade his son from seeing the boy again and threatened to disown him if he didn't comply. Disowning may of not sounded to bad to him but then he realised his father would go after Williams family next. They weren't meant to live in peace, were they? Despite the heartache, the couple refused to give up on each other. They continued to communicate through letters, that were delivered in secret that not even their mothers knew about but it was never enough. They yearned to see each others faces, to feel the warmth of the others breath on their body or their comforting hands protecting each other from the pain that the world would lash at them.

Years went by, and Charles eventually got married to someone her father approved of, The lady Andrea, she was the beauty standard, long blonde hair, curves that were a race course for William to explore but this meant leaving William heartbroken. He moved away, hoping to forget about him, but he couldn't. He never forgot about the boy he loved so deeply. The boy he risked his fathers disapproval for. However, Andrea had her own secret that had yet to be disclosed to Charles.

A month later, on a chilly winters morning, fate brought them together again. They met by chance at a mutual friend's party. They were both married, but the spark between them was still there. They spent the evening talking, reminiscing about the past, and catching up on each other's lives. Charles introduced Andrea to William and explained her "abnormality" according to those who forced her to marry. William introduced a young female to William, her name was Lilbet. Though the sparks were flying, they weren't between the couples that society deemed acceptable.

As the night drew to a close, they both knew they had to go back to their separate lives. But the pull they had for each other was undeniable, they attempted to forcefully destroy it once but it didn't work, did it? They promised to keep in touch. But they both knew it was a promise they couldn't keep due to the divide that marriage had introduced to the individuals.

The heartbroken couple parted ways again, but this time, they knew it was final. They had missed out on a lifetime of love and happiness because of societies views. Their wives will miss out of the lifetime of love and acceptance that the boys will once have for each other. It was a lesson they both learned too late. A lesson taught in heartache and pain
