Vision corrected

A lifetime spent living in black and white

Until a spark of joy ignited faulty wires

Never knowing the origin of my deficiencies

The second color floods my senses

I’m brought to my knees

Overwhelming melancholy drags me through time

Every memory replays with a technicolor filter

Recontextualizing every moment, patently confounding

I catch a glimpse in the shine of my glass

Come to find the skin I've been wrapped in

Has a distinctive gradient from a

Blinding fuchsia to neon lime

A feature no one could have missed, and never did

I was the one lacking in vision

Trained to see only what was allowed of me

Every peek at the mirror previously

Showed no signs of tone or shade

I swear I thought that I was devoid of all hue

Living life in black and white
