Identifying as Asexual

Having sex is optional was never preached to me.

However, I recall thinking that I could never picture ever feeling at ease with the thought of engaging in sexual activity with anybody.

These emotions remained the same as I grew older, I recall.

I've always dreamed of a grand, extravagant romance devoid of any sexual content, one in which I would cuddle, spend time together, climb mountains, and gaze at the stars.

I've known that I'm asexual for as long as I can remember; in fact, I can't even pinpoint the exact moment I discovered it. But for a long time, I resisted because I believed I was too young to know and that I would experience feelings later in life.

Someone's sexual orientation has no bearing on whether they find the appropriate partner or not. It's crucial to trust that you are the expert on your own sentiments and identities in situations like this and to refrain from assuming anything.

One sort of identity that is unrelated to a person's biology is asexuality. Asexuality may not always imply lack of attraction to other people. The definition of asexuality varies among individuals.

Those who identify as asexual do not oppose sexual relations; rather, they are not drawn to any person. Some engage in sexual activities, some engage in masturbation, and some may decide not to engage in any sexual activity at all because they find it repulsive or uncomfortable. Intimacies can also be expressed in different ways by some people.

A common misconception is that asexuality and celibacy or abstinence are synonymous. Asexuality is not a choice, although abstinence and celibacy are. It's possible that asexuals don't truly forgo sex at all. As previously stated, some asexuals do engage in sexual activity.

There is no connection between wanting to get married and being asexual. If they have a connection with another person, then there is no reason why they would not or should not be allowed to get married.

A widespread misperception is.. No sexual attraction at all is felt by asexuals. Not all things have clear-cut answers. Asexuality can also be viewed as a spectrum, similar to how individuals perceive sexuality to be. It is possible for certain members of the asexual community to feel little, no, or a lot of sexual attraction. It is possible for individuals to feel varying degrees of sexual attraction and nevertheless belong to the asexual group. Interestingly enough, though, grey-sexuality is viewed as a medium ground between asexuality and sexuality. People who identify as grey sexuals either rarely or very rarely experience sexual attraction.

There are two orientations within the asexual spectrum:

Romantic orientation and Sexual orientation.

People who identify as asexual have the same emotional needs as others. Because each person is unique, there is a vast range in the ways in which they meet their requirements.

Certain aces might desire romantic partnerships. They may experience romantic attraction to individuals of different sexes or to those of the same sex. Some aces would rather have close friendships than romantic partnerships. Some will become aroused, and some will masturbate even though they don't want to have sex with anyone else. While some asexuals may be "sex-neutral," others may not wish to have sex. To establish an emotional connection, other asexuals will have intercourse.

Only you can decide which label fits you best, and where on the spectrum you fall. As with all sexual and romantic orientations, for some people this is static, and for others it is more fluid. There’s no one way to be ace, and you can take all the time you need to determine if this fits you.
