A Healing Break

a poem for National Coming Out Day

By Savannah K. WilsonPublished about a year ago 1 min read
October 11th - National Coming Out Day

Hello, it’s me … it’s you … it’s us

We’re still here, we made it

You protected me for so long

Were so strong despite your pain

But here I am now, still here … still breathing

Leaving that shell, leaving your protection

Was both the hardest thing to do

Yet the best thing I’ve ever done

A perfect path? By no means

Still, I smile brighter everyday

Take another step forward

Becoming more me each time

More and more I discover and learn

Who I am, Who I love, What I want

Because you had strength …

To crack

I just want to say to anyone who for whatever reason is still in the closet, and unable or not ready to come out. Stay until you feel safe and ready, there's no rules to it, no right or wrong way ... just letting people into your world, showing them, the real you.

First there's no rule that says you have to come out.

Second, stay safe.

Three, I love you.
