ZIA

That time when I was a goddess in the middle of New Mexico

By Anna CunninghamPublished 5 years ago 1 min read

ZIA

The hatchback burned

across desert sands

having come from another land

speeding up to tear through

another dimension

And riding shotgun to the witch

who was driving chaotically at best

the mother Goddess sat

keeping third eyes open

“It seems I’ve come from another time

you have summoned me with a rhyme

a ritual keen to bring me

from my slumber”

The girl fanged a toothy howl

and drove along another mile

when they came to a town in the middle of nowhere

Getting out of that shipwreck of a ruin

and holding up a snake named “Bruin”

Zia strode into a local bar

She was naked except for her boots

and a pendant scratched

between her breasts

The bar people

Stared and the jukebox played

“Season of the Witch”

Zia said “Yeah, I am That Bitch”

And in the car, Freya laughed and put it into gear

never far nor near

did the townspeople hear

what became of the Goddess there…

Zia turned into a flame

and that phoenix burned down the street again.

but Freya was gone

and the car

Forever.
