They were so desperate,
that they fell in love with the scammers.
They didn’t care that they were being lied to, because at least, it was company anyway.
Eventually, the end always came,
because they had no more money in their bank account to give.
One day, the scammers would always disappear into thin air.
They asked, “But I thought you loved me?”
Of course, they knew better.

Thanks for putting this feeling into words. It’s true. We pour our hearts into the black mirror of our screens, hoping something warm looks back. Instead our kindness becomes their currency.
There are so many scammers working so many angles and "love" and "friendship" is all part of the transaction. .
Loved this. Clean, honest and painfully true without being heavy-handed. One of those pieces that just lands.
