You Wanted a Child Bride for a Passport to the UK
You spoke of love with papers in your hand,
your vows were written smaller than your need.
I saw the hunger hiding in your smile,
it looked like charm to those who did not know.
She stood too young to carry adult lies,
her future shaped by someone else’s plan.
Dreams traded quietly across a table,
her voice reduced to something you ignored.
You dressed control as culture and respect,
you called it fate and duty intertwined.
Her childhood slipped between your careful words,
lost in the weight of borders and demand.
Promises fell like coins upon the floor,
each one designed to buy another year.
Love never asks a child to disappear,
it never feeds on fear to cross a line.
She learned to read the room before herself,
to stay agreeable and never ask.
Your eyes searched maps while hers searched for escape,
two journeys never meant to share a path.
A passport stamped with silence and with tears,
the cost was paid in years she cannot claim.
You walked ahead while she was pulled along,
the gap between you measured by her age.
No country grants the right to steal a life,
no border blesses cruelty dressed as need.
History will not soften what you did,
truth does not bend for convenience or gain.
She will outgrow the cage you built with lies,
her name will rise beyond your small designs.
The world is learning how to see this crime,
and you will face the weight of what you took.

I've been writing poetry since the age of fourteen. With pen in hand, I wander through realms unseen. The pen holds power; ink reveals hidden thoughts. A poet may speak truth or weave a tale. You decide. Let pen and ink capture your mind❤️
