You’re my queso.

By which I mean

I went to the store to get what I needed, but, damn, if you didn’t sound good.

You set off a hunger only you could satisfy,

And you did,

But too short lived.

By which I mean

I thought you were a good idea at first,

That the instant gratification meant something.

You’re the $2.97 that’ll last far from long enough

When I could’ve invested in something that’ll last,

But I didn’t.

By which I mean

You were sweet and perfect while it lasted,

But that ended so soon,

And now I’m wondering why I’d do this again—

Let myself love something so entirely to let it break me.

By which I mean

You made the world better and I loved you,

But you look everything when you left.

You sounded so good, and I couldn’t resist,

Even though I know how the story goes.

By which I mean

Love never lasts,

But it sounds so sweet and inviting.

I wanted you even when I knew I didn’t need you,

Even when I knew you’re bad for my heart,

Even when I knew I’d be devastated later,

Even when I knew I’d regret it.

By which I mean

I almost wish I didn’t bother.

You’re my queso,

But I can’t quite say I wouldn’t pick you again.
