You Meet People (And You Feel Things)

Why Living Alone Isn't Easy

One might think

That living alone would be an easy task to accomplish

Especially in today's contactless world.

You can have things delivered -

Groceries,

Prescriptions,

Household cleaning products -

Making it possible to go about your day on your own.

You might think

That you've had enough

Of people breaking your heart

Your back

Your soul.

And you find that it's really quite nice

To spend your time just sitting there

In your home

Instead of at a bar

Or in a club

Or at some café.

You have your space

And you have your peace

And you have your thoughts.

That is enough

And that is good.

You can be content

With spending your life by yourself,

But regardless of what you plan,

That simple feat becomes near impossible.

Because you meet people

And you feel things.

You might spend

The bulk of your life

Avoiding -

People,

Places,

Everything.

But circumstances - you cannot choose.

They just happen.

Even with the solemn intent to live in solitude,

It is inevitable.

You meet people

And you feel things.

An awesome poem Calista! I can relate because I like staying home too! But I do get tired of it sometimes, and… I like to feel feelings. Thanks for such a relatable piece. 🤗

This really touched me in the heart and punched me in the gut at the same time. I love it.
