You gave me comfort

A true love poem for someone who is missing

I remember what it was like when you were here

Everything felt warmer, brighter, and sweeter.

The taste of the morning coffee we would make together

every morning

now taste stale and bitter without you.

I still make it the same way:

1 table spoon of sugar and enough creamer to make it

a milky brown - color of your eyes.

The bedsheets are colder.

Honey doesn't taste sweet.

Echoes linger for longer.

And no one is here to tickle my feet.

I read my favorite books and walk my favorite trails.

Staring at the words and trees.

They both seem to swirl like a leaf in a windy river.

I miss watching the cream

swirl in our coffee - oh your eyes.

The sun beats down and warms my skin

but still my heart is cold

not being here to warm it.

Movies have no action.

Music has no more tempo.

You are not here to give me satisfaction.

Everyone says I should just let it all go.

You gave me comfort

but it seems so long ago.

Watching you board the plane

waving our goodbye.

Now I watch from a distance and

hope we all don't die.

I miss when everything was

warmer, brighter, and sweeter.

No day is ever different.

No day is ever the same.

But yet nothing has changed

and months have no name.

The hugs you gave

Made me smile brighter than the sun

More warmth than a desert dune

not much brings me fun

Even the piano is out of tune.

You gave me comfort.

The clothes still hang never moving

the smell of you

long drifted away.

The days are longer

some colder

some hotter.

Grass and leaves both have their turn

Turning brown from the air

we used to share.

182 days and still counting.

Never rely on just one.

I miss the way

you gave me

comfort.
