yin/yang

a poem

By Skye VaillancourtPublished 4 years ago 1 min read

i have been the dark

and the dark's lover

all the same,

so let me explain

how i married the light.

my mind's spotlight

found you instantly that day.

when the gilded glint of your smile

brandished my eye,

a furiously glowing orb

awoke, like the sun itself,

within my ribs.

they say you are what you eat

so i devoured you at once

and kept you safely inside;

i never wanted to be dark again--

only magnetic, blindingly brilliant,

vibrating so high the world merely

a mirage before me.

to my surprised delight,

you were overjoyed

to be of such help

and so you settled in snugly.

as the years hurdled by,

your radiant white aura

was my life support,

tethering me to the present,

grounding me to the joys of every day

so i wouldn't float off

like a discarded balloon.

then, one day

a shooting star struck

and as the dust flitted away

i could see we had become

two searingly beautiful

prismatic beings--

now separate

but equal.

we were now

able to be light for one another,

to guide one another,

as well as for ourselves,

but amplified--

twice the lightness.
