Yesterday’s Laughter, Today’s Tears
Yesterday’s laughter rang,
like bells across the room.
It filled the air with sunshine,
and painted joy on all.
But laughter fades too quickly,
its echo thin and gone.
Today the tears have risen,
and stolen what was bright.
Yesterday’s laughter sweet,
is now a distant ghost.
It haunts the fragile moment,
with what can’t be returned.
I hold the memory tightly,
though it cuts against my hand.
For joy once shared so freely,
is now a heavy loss.
Yesterday’s laughter,
how cruel your fleeting stay.
Today’s tears fall unending,
a river of regret.
I wonder if tomorrow,
will give me back the sound.
Or if the past will linger,
forever out of reach.
Yesterday’s laughter, today’s tears,
a truth I can’t undo.
The heart can hold both always,
and break beneath their weight

To me maybe a sad poem but one of understanding why things happen the way they do.
A beautiful sad poem, Marie!
