What kinship I had with the dark, I wonder,
You lit a candle in my life, tearing it asunder.
But that flame, too, bore its heat,
And reminded me of my cold nights, bittersweet.
Your arrival feels like a healing embrace,
Like solace, like footsteps with grace.
Remembering you brings a smile to my face,
As if in silence, I await your trace.
To confess I cannot, yet love you I must,
Surround me, for in you lies my trust.
You are my home, my anchor, my stay,
My soul lingers here, my body lays.
Yet your worth now seems to be waning,
I’m taught to endure this painful refraining.
This is the world’s way of building anew,
While the mansion of my heart is crumbling through.
I had hope you would surely come by,
But hope itself now eats me alive.
Why does sleep evade me tonight?
Worries keep me awake, igniting my fright.
