Warm skies and poison air filter through lips
Opened in awe, screaming, silently, for immortality.
The shadow looms, touching the tips of slender,
Translucent wings touched by moonlight.
By fire and brimstone and blood.
Feed them the dark.
.
Feed them the ethereal substance of souls
And listen to them as they whir.
There is a scream in the canopy,
A pulsing dream of sex and dark seclusion
That I can get behind too,
That I can dream of too.
.
Let me crawl through the topsoil
And nestle between thick roots.
Let me purse my lips and suckle from the soul
Of this thing eons older than I
And let me live, live, live
So that I can die.

Shadowed souls, cursed magic, poetry that tangles itself in your soul and yanks out the ugly darkness from within. Maybe there's something broken in me, but it's in you too.

So sensual! Your imagery and descriptive language really brings your poetry to life.
An insightful description through poetry. Very surreal. In reality, the sounds of those insects never cease and are a buzzing crescendo throughout the day. Nice job!
“And listen to them as they whir. There is a scream in the canopy,” very vividly captured the sound the swarms make! Kind of developed an aversion to cicadas during their last stint but great work using the suckers for poetry’s sake!
You have honoured our craft with such enticing, pelleting words; we are always longing for more of you. Keep this up and you will be one of the best poets and writers of our time. No B.S. from ole ROCK. Shoot higher.
