Y'all Aint Ready

Are We

By Jonathan TurmonPublished 4 years ago 2 min read

Y’all said yall wanted to talk about it

But y’all aint ready for the truth

The reason we are hated and hunted

Devalued and misled from youth

Mankind’s forsaken children

God’s chosen few

Still searching for the land of Milk n Honey

Trying to escape Babylon’s noose

The history has been hidden

From Jerusalem to the Egyptian Sphinx

The creators of the greatest civilizations

Even Ancient Romans, Italians, and Greeks

All marveled and mirrored the images

Until envy and greed reached its peak

See We were once called Moors and

Held in the highest regards

Feared and respected for intellect and war

Descendants of true survivors

Because American Slavery was like none other before

Yet we rise above the bullshit

Only to be mired in it

See they let us out of slavery

Led us into segregation

Then lynched us with Jim Crow

Thus began the Negro Miseducation

See our history does not begin

Nor will our legacy end

Bound by shackles and chains

We were Kings, Emperors, Chiefs, warriors,

Embedded in the foundation of world social and technological exchange

Crude insinuations of incivility and savagery

When we taught Europeans to bathe

Now we find ourselves chasing remnants of our bondage

That oh so elusive whip and chain.

Always Expecting something for nothing

Content with a life on welfare

Spoiled by masters oppressive arms

To keep us enslaved and unaware

EBT, Housing, Medicaid, and Child Support

All a separate shackle for each metaphorical limb.

The compromise is

Give up hope, be ignorant and stagnate and we will provide.

We only require your soul in return,

not to mention your spirit and pride.

Yet still we continue to rise

Survived genocide from our countrymen

Tuskegee experiments, Black Wall Street,

The Central Park 5.

Assassinations of our leaders

Malcolm, Martin, Edgar, Fred and brother Bobby

But that warrior blood running through our veins

only knows how to survive.

Now we know Carrol got Emmitt Till killed and

Now Karen following suit

Calling 12 and managers on everybody not like them they see.

45 never told em it was ok

But he inspires the hate with every ignorant ill intentioned tweet.

Massacres in churches, police brutality, being gunned down unarmed,

I CANT BREATHE

Schools don’t teach me

No jobs,

momma can’t feed me

What’s left, the streets

Yea they say they need me

They'll provide my American dream deferred

Pulling my bootstrap up, Just like you said right

Watch me be the example you keep feeding me.

But we must not, I can not, we made a promise we will not,

Let those deaths be in vain

Please Say they names:

George Floyd 46

Breona Taylor 26

Atatiana Jefferson

Stephon Clark

Botham Jean

Philando Castille

Alton Sterling

Freddie Gray

Eric Ggarner

SAY THEIR NAMES:

Ahmad Arbury

Tamir Rice

Trayvon Martin

Mike Brown

Taneisha Anderson

Rayshard Brooks

EliJah McCain

Now our legacies begin

Through the fight to avenge

their unwilling sacrifice

Sparked movements that have changed the hearts of many men.

Yea, I think we getting a little closer. More judge us for who we are. The content, character within

Shhhh we got allies, accomplices and alibis of all various tones of skin.
