Written in the Palms

Things I wish I could say

I hope we don’t sink

I wish to protect you from every little thing

The lines on your palms

Are they the same as mine?

My eyes, I hope you see yourself in them

Is it okay to want? To yearn?

Do not break my bubble

Do not pull me away from my illusions

You call, and I wake up

I choose you over sleep

It’s always you over my dreams

Our story, maybe it’s not like the movies

But, I would turn it into a book of poetry

I write for you without hesitation

The words pour out like they have always been waiting

I wish I could keep you safe

From the harshness of the world

From the bitterness of it all

Our story, it isn’t for anyone else to understand

It’s solely ours

How do I shield you?

How do I make you smile?

Your sadness breaks my heart

How do I tell you the things I wish to say?

You stay awake, and I can’t sleep

You battle reality, and I try to meet you in my dreams

People tell me that anything can happen

I know, I should keep my daydreams in control

But how do I hold myself back when you’re all I ever wanted?

My heart, it’s all yours to break

My soul, maybe it knows yours

I see the signs, and I can’t look away

I see you smile, and I can’t look away

My heart, I hope you keep it safe

My love for you, I have carried it all my life

My heart, it’s all yours to break

I look into your eyes and I see home

Your soul, maybe it knows mine

Our souls, have they always been intertwined?

Have our lives always been aligned?
