Writing Grounds Us

Dear Poets and Writers,

Writing is hard work. It requires one to dig deep and work through some serious pain and life experiences. No one says it is easy but does anyone really know the truth about writing other than writers?

I will let you in on a secret.

Writing although difficult is what grounds us here. When I say us I mean humans. We writers are all human afterall and even though our imaginations take us to mystical realms blood still flows through our veins.

Grounding is necessary for writing and pursuing long-term work as a writer. We need to focus and be in the moment to get work down. We need to be mindful and come back to the page again and again even when we have lost all hope of finishing.

Creative pursuits may take us on a wild imaginative journey however, writing allows us to process and make sense of our stories in a linear fashion. The stories in our mind become words on a page and make sense to others in a the strangest way possible a personal interpretation which is individual and unique as each and every reader. Reading and writing grounds us here. On difficult days writing can bring us to the present and hold us in the moment safe and secure with pen and paper. This grounding allows us to write the difficult stuff.

If you are in need of some grounding I encourage you to pick up a pen and a fresh page and lean in. Unload and let go. Difficult days require processing and life is often strange and confusing. Fear not the challenge of writing the hard stuff for words will lead you down the write path , yes the writer's path which is a sweet journey.
