Would You See?
(a submission for the True-Colors challenge)

Would You See?
.
If you saw me then
Walking down the street,
You'd notice wide hips,
Round belly,
Absent breasts
That cancer took from me.
.
You wouldn't see
My courage,
My strength,
My gifts as a healer,
My traumas,
My sorrows,
My pride in raising my child alone,
My loneliness,
My resilience.
.
If you saw me now
You'd notice my crowning glory,
Hair in fluid layers of
Purple
(would you notice wisdom, creativity, peace?),
Blue
(would you know it signifies heaven, serenity, health?),
Magenta
(would you understand harmony, compassion, balance?)
And the gray that comes with years lived.
.
You'd see my courage,
My strength,
My beauty,
My pride,
And yet, perhaps too,
My loneliness,
And my hips.
